The Name that Tune Korean Pop Songs Game
« on: April 25, 2011, 03:16:29 pm »
**Update - this there is now a newer version (2.2) which should finally work, has a few more recent songs, better pictures, and the nintendo wii theme song on the home screen page.  Both version 2.2 and the original version can be downloaded below.  Each has it's own lyrics guide.

If you are not familiar with the Name that Tune Game, this is a game where students must listen to short clips of songs and then guess who the singer is and the song's title.  My version is even better because even though the songs are all Korean pop songs, the song clips I cut are almost entirely in English.  To hear the songs, you click on the music note image and then the short song clips will play.  Personally, I award full points only if they can regurgitate at least some of the words they hear.  I'd go easy on the students because not all the songs are slow.  This doesn't fit into any particular lesson plan, it's more of a time killer or fun activity ^^

You might be thinking...why is Lee Hyori on the front page?  That's because I love her.  Moving on...

Feel free to edit as you like.  Post your versions on here if you want.  I'm not the best powerpoint maker ever but this ppt is kind of my baby *tear*.

This is awesome. Thanks a lot. What program did you use to edit the songs?

Um- I know there are convertors out there--but I am so technologically inept. Could you please post your ppt in 97-2003 compatibility?? (.ppt)

Open office tends to do bad things to pptx files :'(

@lefty12 I used a program called mptrim to edit the songs.  It as a really simple interface =)

@ariybird I will add the older version ppt file here.  You must move it into the first folder with all the songs for it to work.  Good luck.

Thanks a million! I look forward to using it as a reward for my 6th graders! And perhaps even in my teacher's class.

This is great! I love some of your song choices, although I worry that my pop-obsessed middle schooler's might get the"guessing part" too easily-ㅋㅋㅋ

One question: How long does this game normally take you to do? Do you think it can last a whole 45min?

Thanks so much for making this!

Sorry for the late reply.  When I played, my 1st-3rd graders could not think of any of the songs nor could they really say any of the English (low level school).  I didn't finish the game for this reason.  When I do test it out on some older kids I will post how long it took here.

@portlandzach - I would be willing to help you if you gave me a more detailed description of where you got stuck.

@tduon004 - You're welcome.  I hope they do enjoy it. Please use the game often ^^

No worries guys, I'm glad you like it.

@S.Lee - I totally get you and I don't have any objections to you changing it.  In the future I will be adding more songs (my Korean song list is ever growing).  I've been under the weather a bit and uncommonly busy so I haven't gotten around to improving this ppt much.  What I would do to meet Hyori...

@portlandzach - When I read your last post I didn't know the answer right away so I tried searching for a solution but didn't find anything promising.

I am not sure if this will help you but what should happen is that you download the zipped folders and they show up in your downloads folder. At that point, if you double click them they should open up and inside of them should be folders with the same name.  Simply drag those folders onto your desktop (this sounds like the part you can't do but hopefully it works this time).

After you have both folders on your desktop, simply move the files from the second folder into the first.  Then you should be set to go.

Also, maybe someone else who has come across this red circle problem can give a solution on here.  Good luck.

This sounds like a fun game, but i don't think it'll work with my elementary students.

I just wanted to let you know that the version of "Go Away" in this ppt is not by 2NE1. It's an English cover done by someone on youtube.
