I used the first part of the powerpoint to introduce the "let's practice" dialogue.  Then play a game where the two sides of the room are divided and each says one part of the dialogue in response to the pictures of the people on the slides.  The additional powerpoints are to review the expressions from the dialogue and the new vocabulary. (credit to my coteacher for getting the last two off the internet)

I used this video in class year as a warm up to grab the kids attention for an otherwise dry lesson. The kids absolutely loved it and thought it was hilarious.

Hello. I redid Shelia's worksheet and saved it in .odt, .doc, .pdf. I use open office so docx formatting doesn't import very well for me. I think I improved the formatting overall. If you just want to print off the worksheet, download the pdf.

You would want to start the video after the first 20 seconds or so.  There is also a little kissing in the video, so if your school is super-strict - it may not be a good way to go.

Oh - another video.  Lady Gaga's Telephone song is fun.  I'm using it during break time to get the kids interested in the lesson instead of running around the classroom breaking things.
Unfortunately, Lady Gaga's video is a little risque - plus, this Glee version is easier to understand.

Ugh. So, Bart and Doremon replace Nami and Peter and I'll just have students repeat after me ... safer this way!

PPT Game - Ss practice comprehending numbers as said in a phone number.

T - "You need to call 123-4567. Who you gunna call?"
Ss - "Bart!

After they get this down, you could go back through (or change it up in the middle) and ask them who they want to call and What's their phone number.

P.S. One slide has my name and photo - you should change it to be yours - Ss will like it better, I promise!

I hope this explanation will make sense:

First off, my class is divided into 6 groups/tables: A,B,C,D,E,F. The tables take turns asking "Is this (letter) group?" The group whose letter appears says, "Yes it is." Then click to see what the first group says( ie "Let's play soccer"/"Let's meet at my house at 3:00"/etc) The other group replies with "Sounds good" or "Sorry I can't.

**The group's letter who asks "Is this...group?" is in the top left corner.

And here are two PPTs with the key expressions. I used them for the first part of the lesson.

Simple survey game.

Each student will go around class and have the following dialog:

A: Is ____ there?
B: Speaking.
A: Let's ___________.
B: Ok, what's your number?
A: __________.


Students will mark on their survey sheet what their friends want to do as well as his/her phone number. Gets them to listen for and speak phone numbers in English as well as practice the phrase, "Let's ________" which they should've learned earlier in the semester, if not previous years.

Make sure though that students are not just showing each other numbers and that they are actually speaking.

My co-teacher is asking me to come up with better ideas for the dialogues portions.  The question and answer part.  She does not want a powerpoint, since we use too much of it already.  Please help.  My students are very low-level for 5th graders.
