May not be a radio station, but you can choose one song and then turn the radio function on listen to similar genres/songs/artists.

^^

I use it everyday. You can type in any song or band you want to hear and it plays similar genres of music. Or you can choose anything from Jazz - Hits from the 80's or Classic Rock.

enjoy! ;)

I have been using GS for a couple years now. They have made some recent improvements like now you can listen to the Top 500 songs right now. Great feature and completely free, no signup required.

Also, if you like hip hop, you can stream Hot 97 from New York City. ^_^

Without a doubt KCRW in Los Angeles. It's a public radio station that you can stream online for free at any time. There are various types of music shows on the station but "Morning Becomes Eclectic" is my favorite. It features life performances and interview from really good bands all the time.
Click on "Music programs" at the top and choose which one you'd like to listen to: http://www.kcrw.com/

Alternatively, there is also a 24-hour all-music stream so you can stream constant music.

Austin, Texas' own 101X.  They play everything I would if I had a radio station.  For the most part.  Smashing Pumpkins, White Stripes, Toadies, Crystal Castles, Arcade Fire...the list goes on.  Love it.

I like to use winamp.. You can select from many different stations under tons of different genres.. I personally like to listen to 'Groove Salad', which can be found in the Ambient section.

Australia's got a couple of good public ones. Triple J is good sometimes of day, but really depends on the presenter. Good current affair show at about 5 in the afternoon. On the West coast, its less mainstream competitor would be RTRFM A good advantage with Aussie channels is that they're all streamed within an hour of GMT+9, so you're not listening to graveyard mixtapes in the afternoon.
