How to Turn on Floor Heating - HELP
« on: November 03, 2010, 08:01:02 pm »
Hey,

So I am having some trouble figuring out my floor heating. I took a picture of my thermostat control. I first brought that picture into my co-teacher and got her to translate but for some reason I still cannot seem to turn on my floor heating. I've posted a picture of the thermostat to see if anybody can help me. This is what I currently understand:

Knobs: Top knob means temperature of floor heating. Bottom knob is timer. (timer for what, I don't know)
Buttons: Top button is for power. Second button is apparently for floor heating and hot water. Third button is for hot vs warm water. Last button is for "quick" hot water.

Hey Erika,

It seems like you have all of the buttons figured out.  The hot vs warm water button wasn't green in your picture.  Does it ever turn green?  The heater in my last apartment didn't work for awhile either...I initially thought the problem was my thermostat but it wasn't.   After finally remembering to tell my boss, he came over and showed me where to find the valves for the water pipes/hoses that ran under the floor.  It turned out that all of the pipes were closed.  If you know where to find them in your apartment, try reversing them and then check the floors in your apartment to see if any of them heat up.  If the heater is working properly you should start to feel some added warmth pretty quickly.. If you can't figure it out, it shouldn't take much for your boss or co-teacher to get someone over there to take a look at it for you..cheers!

First, find your water heater. It should be in your veranda or wherever your washing machine is. There should be a main valve switch on the pipe or pipes come out of it. If they are on the handles will be pointing the same direction as the pipe.  Then go back to your thermostat. For now, set the timer to zero. The timer is for how long you want the floor heating to run.

Then try pressing the second button and see what happens. The way my system works is that when the button for the heating/water is pressed in, I only have hot water. When it is out or off, I have both hot water and floor heating. Other than that, look to see if there are and flashing lights. If there are that means that there is a problem with the heater. If not, then talk to your co-teacher.

Thanks for all you help - I found the valves but it's still not working. I will have to get my co-teacher to call maintenance!
