Dance Around the World
« on: March 29, 2010, 01:55:42 pm »
My 2nd graders are learning about art, performances and music from around the world so I did a lesson on international dances. This is basically how it went:

* Ask students to list their favorite singers/bands; take a few minutes to discuss what type of music that is, and what type of dancing they do

* Tell students we will be learning about a few new dances from around the world, and to pay close attention because there is a worksheet. Some of my students chose to take notes, and they finished their worksheets that much faster.

* Show the powerpoints, and some of the dances have youtube links which they all liked (and some even tried to mimic)

* Hand out the worksheet including a country match and crossword puzzle -- first few students get a prize, whatever.

* Students then do research on their own dance, and tell us facts and a few dance moves. In some classes, they got so into it that this became a two-day lesson whereas other classes just did a popular dance songs that everyone already knew.

I hope you enjoy  :)

Thanks for this one!

I made a completely new one for my high school students. It doesn't have a worksheet.

I pasted in YouTube links. These are mostly from the TV show "So You Think You Can Dance".

Hope you like it!
