Grade 4 Lesson 6 How's the Weather: Judy Yin book
« on: June 01, 2011, 12:02:08 pm »
Here are two PPTs I made for review for "How's the weather?" The spongebob one is definitely specific to this book, since it includes "It's beautiful, it's wonderful", etc. I am sorry I forgot to say I created the spongebob, but the other one I got from here and made minor changes
Also, we are playing a board game.
added board game. It is from esl-kids.com

We also skipped the role and instead did a spongebob role play, I attached it below as well.

I found the video link in another weather thread on here, so I'm just attaching a ppt file with the link in it...

Then I made this power point to go with it.  Click anywhere on the map for the next pin to come up (in order of the video, starting with Korea though), click on the pin to make the name of the country come up, and then click on the name of the country to go to the question slide.  When my kids watched the video, I told them to try to memorize the country names and weather, then used the power point as a quick check-up activity for the kids to get points for their teams.

I love the weather report idea,  maybe could spark a few creative ideas here with some planning and drama acting. I might see if my students could make a weather report about the different countries they saw, maybe in a short video format.  LOVE THE IDEAS TOP NOTCH 8)

Attached is the vocab and role play specific to this book. I added more vocab and added two additional roles to the role play so my kids don't fight over who does which part.
I hope someone can use this.

Bounce back game for weather. I made this.

The instructions are on the second slide of the power point, but as always if you have any questions, just PM me.

Happy Teaching!

The first lesson we talked about the weather in different countries then I had the students ask me how the weather is.  I would reply however I wanted, and the Ss had to act out the weather.

For the writing I made a crossword which i attached below.  I included some words not in the book (foggy, hailing, June) because I taught these to my students.

At the end of the chapter, I will have the Ss give a weather report on another city/country using weather.com 5 day forecast.
