Grade 4, Lesson 6 - How Much Is It? (Cameron M. Wood)
« on: June 09, 2011, 02:57:40 pm »
Hello. Sorry, but I don't have anything to share just yet. I'll be glad to do so after this lesson.

But I wanted to ask if anyone had a lesson plan relevant to this lesson. My open class will involve this topic, and I just want to see if there are any good ideas out there for a lesson plan that's well-rounded and sharp. We typically just follow the book, but if someone has a little innovation it'd be much, much appreciated.

Here's a Gogo (30) video that goes with the lesson: I used this to introduce the lesson...

Not sure if anyone still needs lesson plans for this lesson; I completed this before summer break, but my co-teacher wants to start the fall semester by reviewing lesson 6 again.

I did a search like this "how much is it" including the parenthesis, and so many great games/lessons/ideas etc came up. So, instead of needlessly re-posting what I found, just thought I'd let everyone know.

Good luck this semester...

Hey everyone!  I made this fill in the blanks worksheet today, and my kids loved it!  The pictures can be found in the back of their book!  They'll just need to tear them out, and grab a glue stick from somewhere!

I haven't been able to use this activity yet but I think it goes well with the lesson.

Rules
1. Students are broken up into groups of six (or however many would work according to your class size)
2. Each group gets a chance to come up to the front of the class to be the store clerk.
3. The other groups are the customers.
4. The customers must buy items that they think add up to the goal. Each team has 20-30 seconds to discuss with their team members the items they want to buy .
5. When the time is up the clerks ask each group "What do you want?"
6. The customers ask for each of the items they want and the clerk must write the items under each team name. (it may be fun to have the students come up with a store name before the game starts)
7. Each team gets a chance to ask the clerk how much each item is on their list.
8. The clerk says "How about this one." Clicks on the item, once the item is clicked the price will be revealed and the clerk will say "It's .... won" and writes the amounts next to the items in each team's list.
9. The team that is closest to the goal gets a point.
10. The clerk can get a point by spelling each word correctly.
11. Keep playing until each team gets a chance to be the clerk.

If you run out of goal slides then you can add additional ones and copy the item slides or let the clerk decide what the goal will be for that round.

If you have any questions please let me know.

Here's a League of Legends review game for lessons 1 through.  Thanks to the original author of the template.

Feel free to make any changes!
