Lesson 9 How was your vacation?

A video which can be used during the lesson.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0cz-X3cDh0&feature=related

It is based on the 6th grade text book, but should make a nice starter or gap filler.

One of the words for this lesson is there.

Here is a fun clip from the Simpsons related to the word there and vacations. A nice 30 second filler for the class.

Here'a a guessing game. Kids get hints to try and guess what I did this vacation, if they guess it correctly with fewer hints they can receive more points. After the game is a picture reveal game they have to guess what picture of my vacation is under the icons. If I need to make this longer I will have the kids write down four hints about what they did for their vacation, have them ball them up and thrown them at the board, one at a time a student picks a ball at random and reads the hints, we try to guess what they did and who wrote it. (snowball game)

I modified this angry birds game to suit the textbook better.  There are some questions where I am going to have the kids write in lines I have drawn on the board to help them practice.  Hope it helps!

Two PPT for use with this lesson.

PPT 1) Key vocabulary. Please read notes on slide 2 for the two video clips from youtube.

PPT 2) A filler activity to use at the end of class. (Students try and guess the word or phrase as the teacher slowly shows the picture).

I hope they are of use to someone.

Game – Speaking:  Present/Past memory game
Copy, cut, and paste the words onto colored paper to prevent being able to see through the paper.  Play memory in groups.  Students try to match the present and the past tense of the same verb.

Game – Speaking:  Cockroach
Show the PPT.  Practice the mannerisms for each animal.  Each student starts as a cockroach.  Students move around the room and to find the same animal.  When they find the same animal as they are, they do the target language then rock, paper, scissors.  The winner moves up the evolution scale.  The loser remains the same animal.  When a student goes beyond human, they can sit down.

Game – Speaking:  Board game
Start with a marker in the middle.  Students do rock, paper, scissors and the winner moves the marker one space towards the other player.  They should then speak according to the space that the marker is on.  “What did you do?”  “I went to the beach.”  Repeat.  The student who gets past the last space on the other person’s side is the winner.

Word unscramble for this lesson. I use a different textbook but it doesn't have a link so I thought I'd just put it here.
