Music, Song and Dance Camp "Movement in a World of Music"

This was a camp I did this past summer with one of my elementary schools. The camp was wildly successful and a blast for everyone involved. Some of these are "copy cat songs" which means that students repeat after you (Banana Dance, Baby Shark, Boom Chicka Boom). Cha Cha Slide is killer just remember to move the desks wayyyy out of the way. I taught a simplified ESL version of Three Little Birds along with the sign language (also simplified). The students were incredibly receptive and a couple girls helped me before the camp to make an instructional video for the classes (see attached Three Little Birds hyperlink)

Other attached hyperlinks are ones I found on youtube so you can get an idea of the songs, but simplify them to ESL and adapt them to the levels of your students. Happy camping!!!

Occasionally, I like to teach songs during camps. I've attached the lesson plans and worksheets that I created for teaching "The Hokey Pokey" to my elementary students. Many thanks go to my former co-teacher, Sau He Sook, for helping me with the Korean translations.

Thanks for posting this. I was actually wanting to do a hokey pokey lesson. You just made it so much easier! Using your graphics, I made a new worksheet so the kids could have the lyrics in front of them. I will also have them match the vocab words "head, left foot, whole self..." to the correct picture. Thanks again!

I tried out a "Cha-Cha Slide" lesson and it worked much better than expected. Pre-taught all the verbs and anything difficult, then played a video that featured the song with lyrics. Vocabulary matched to movements, then everybody follow the vid. And my classes are nearly 40 students each. It was a blast!

I remember doing songs and dances at church summer camps. They were fun! I'm going to do some easy English songs with my 3rd grade camp. Here are the songs I'm going to use so far. Make up some fun dance moves!
I think it'll be a good warm up activity before we begin class.

I made an SUMMER ENGLISH CAMP based on music and dance and making music videos. Especially music or songs. So I guess it could be called SUMMER ENGLISH MUSIC VIDEO CAMP.

I did two levels. Green was 3rd grade and Orange was 4th/5th grade. It could work Green 3/4 and Orange 5/6 too. Orange would be hard for 3rd grade though. It was a little hard for Grade 4.

I have a PDF and HWP file for each.

It has all instructions. And if you read instructions, it tells you what to do. Only addition is to print letters for Days 5 and 6, one letter on each page. (you'll see)

And for DON'T WORRY, BE HAPPY, if there are few students print extra copies of the drawing paper for students to do many drawings.

I did a music day as part of my summer camp for 5th and 6th graders.  We did the Cha Cha Slide and it was a big success, so thanks for the suggestion, erindipity! First we watched about a minute and a half of the music video as a teaser, and then we learned the key vocabulary through a ppt. (The font I used for both ppt files is jointbypizzadude.) I had the students write the key words once in English and then once in Korean.  Then we went through the song without the music, just them watching me and copying my movements.  Finally we listened to the song and danced along!  We wrapped it all up by watching the whole music video. The whole thing took about 40 minutes. It was really fun.   ;D

I also did a music day with my 3rd and 4th graders.  I took girl0629's suggestion and used "Can an Elephant Jump?" and it was successful.  I also used "Ten in the Bed" from Super Simple Learning (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdDypyS_5zE).  That was also pretty fun, and good for practicing numbers.  The first song is very straightforward to act out with the kids, but we also acted out "Ten in the Bed."  I had all the students line up and then as we sang the song, they all rolled over and one student at the end got to fall to the floor (most of them were very dramatic about it). :azn:
