Adele - rolling In The Deep - Gap Fill/Q's/Life
« on: March 09, 2012, 03:31:00 PM »
Hi!

I don't usually use this kind of lesson in class. However, at the start of this semester I surveyed the kids and asked them to input ideas for topics that maybe useful for them to study. Basically, ideas for class that they would find interesting. I don't usually do that either, but it worked out quite well.  :)

Some great ideas were generated. However, 90% of the kids named learning about pop songs and celebrities in their worksheets. So, I guess I will have to add some music classes here and there this year, in order to show that I have listened to their suggestions  :)

Anyhow, this lesson is far from perfect IMO and isn't conversation focused. But, it may be of use to some people.

Also, makes me feel less guilty for being lazy last year and stealing a lot of ideas from here without actually submitting anything of value.

There is one ppt with a brief introduction, comprehension questions, vocab, answers and video embedded.
One LIFE STORY gap fill - The teacher reads this whilst the students listen and complete. (I'm sure this could be MUCH better)
One worksheet for the actual song

One file is missing which has the complete Korean translations for the song. I offer these to the kids after class. If you want that, i suggest you ask your co-teacher to find it on Naver.

Again, it could be better. took me about 1hr to complete all. Therefore, any improvement suggestions are welcomed :)

THanks i am going to use this lesson. I found a translation on a k-blog, not sure of its accuracy yet so ask a co-t to check it over. Thanks OP!

The fourth line doesnt get the translation correct, here is a better version.

Go ahead and sell me out and I'll lay your sheet bare
네가 나에 대해 이야기하고 다니면, 나도 네 비밀을 세상에 말하고 다닐거야.

I added a worksheet to cut out the sentences and put them in order while the students listen to the song. If you have higher level students you could probably use the entire song's lyrics.

The best translation yet - Adele Rolling in the Deep.docx

i wanna marry a kerean famious girl 2 so i put in some k-culture in the paper to not make it all about some maniac depressive uk singer. Id date Adele though if shed fly me to london and wine and dine me in posh uptown spots.

I do not know how2 limit the bandwith. if the bandwith guys get angry they can edit this    :-[ but i have alot of cool links you can use:

boi the boi kidz was going stalker crazy over this 12 year old. kinda creepy  but it is an attention getter:

girls like thses 2 cute boi singers:

this glee one is boi and girl who both sing real awesome:

anyhow overall cool lessen i modded ur paper 2 but i used ur fill in the blank thing. btw adele is 25 now so u should change that if you do the ppt part

oh edit. yeah edit- i did not put in the korean covers. ok just go to youtube and do a search of rollin in the deep korean cover and you will get one talent show girl the kids like also there is another talent show girl who is a lil thick they like too. tons of covers to choose from to keep it interestin. yeah great lesson im using it and it works good- thx for making it. 4 the paper story handout i would edit out the boring pop chart recard sales 2 but i am 2 lazy to do that.

So first you showed the PPT, slides 1-6 I guess? Then you read "Adele-Her Story"? Did they fill in the gaps as you read it or did you read it once and then have them fill it in? Why do you have the answers to you questions on the same slides in the PPT?

Thanks a lot for your hard work.
I'm a Korean teaching English at an all boys high. I've come to know about this site recently and was quite impressed to find out about a lot of native English teachers who are doing their best to improve our students' English abilities. Thanks a million for that.
This site is great! awesome!
I've revised a little bit of your work to fit better for my lower level students. The procesures are
1. students are gonna listen to the song, but not by Adele but by 박지민, the winner of the Korean audition program "K-pop star", who will be more familiar to them than Adele
2. each student will be given the gap-fill worksheet and one of the answer strips and they are gonna fill in the blanks using the target question forms
3. students are gonna watch the music video of Adele's rolling in the deep
4. students are gonna do the "spot the wrong lyrics" activity as a group of 4
5. students are gonna have some time to get used to the song and sing along with the music
6. ss will watch more music videos or video clips of rolling in the deep sung by other cover singers (which can be found easily on Youtube)
7. time permitted, they can watch a dance choreo by Kyle hanagami

This is my first time uploading a lesson plan.
I hope this will help some Korean English teachers.
