Unit 6: "Happy Birthday, Mr. William" [handout]

This asset is a supplementary handout intended for use in Unit 6: "Happy Birthday, Mr. William". Use this in the second lesson or as review.

The handout is quite clear and simple. There is a vocabulary builder, review from previously discovered vocab which can be used in the Expression Builder section of the handout.

I have done this with both high-functioning grade three students and those at the lower level and it has been a relatively painless process. Simple. Easy I think.

I usually encourage my students to try to find/use other words than those provided in the vocab word bank. You can use this as homework.

So for this lesson my co-teacher had the kids play this really fun game. They loved it!
You need party hats, pictures of animals from the back of the book and some music (she just used the song/chant from the CD that comes with the textbook). You tell the kids to pick 2 animals they like and have them tape it inside the hat. Then have them dance around to the music. When you stop the music, they find a partner to play rock-paper-scissors with. The winner says "I want a ______" and the person who lost says "here, you are" if they have it and "sorry, I don't have it" if they don't. Play a few rounds. The person with the most presents is the winner.

I thought it was brilliant, hopefully you think so too.
