Hi bouliay!

Welcome to Korea...haha.

When you say lesson plan, do you mean a written plan with goals and objectives? I don't have that. If you do the listening section of the book and this do this power point with the work sheet, it'll take the full 45-50minutes for your class.

It's a bummer that your school doesn't want you to do the speaking activities from the book, as I'm sure it would be helpful to get your feet wet as far as standing and teaching in front of the class. Anyway, good luck with everything! I hope you enjoy Korea!

hey cutieturtle07, I know it sucks that they wont just let me follow the book for this chp cos that would help a lot! Also, on top of being told to make my own activities, ppt's etc instead of the book they also want me to start and finish this chp next week (this first lesson with all my first graders was supposed to be an introductory/getting to know them lesson)so now I've to cram it all into one lesson and I have no idea what their language abilities are except that their classes have been levelled so I guess I'll just do a generic lesson with an activity that can be expanded for more advanced classes! :/
Anyways thanks again for the lesson-i'm def gonna use a lot of it!Enjoy your next adventure :)

Hey Bouliay! I wish you luck - Hitting the ground running is kinda hard, but you can do it. :)

I'm creating materials for the lesson right now, so I think I can offer some advice.  Since you're not sure about your students levels yet, vocabulary sets are the easiest - stick to those!
You could actually do something really simplistic for this lesson as it pertains to animals - Hidden pictures (slowly uncover a picture to reveal an image underneath and have teams take turns guessing), or a 'Who am I?' session (describing an animals features and have students try figure out what it is).
As for the key expressions "I'm interested in" is the equivalent of "I like" (which every korean kid has been exposed to since the 3rd grade). Not to mention the kids just finished a chapter on "do you (like)~?". Review "likes" with them, then introduce "I'm interested in" as the same function --- such as drawing a big equal sign between the two phrases on the board. Once they make that connection, you can prompt conversations with them and they'll be able to restructure it themselves within a few gos. At this time, you can do a survey, speed quiz, golden bell, board game, stop the the bus (choose topics like the ones listed on pg. 45 of the workbook) or whatever else to fill the remaining time. =)

Hi cutieturtle,

Thanks for putting up your ppt and worksheet. Sorry to hear you're leaving, your materials are always great. For slides 16 to 25 of the ppt, where did you get the pictures and translations? are they screen captures from the cd rom?

Hi everyone,

I've modified cutieturtle07's powerpoint to better suit my students. It includes a link to a video on amazing animals and people as well as some interesting animal facts. My students loved these and it generated a lot of opinions which was useful for the " Really? That's ..." part. I've put more of an emphasis on this part because my students constantly use the same words when giving opinions so I wanted to widen their vocabulary a little.

I've also attached an animal hidden pictures that I found on here (can't remember where, but thanks!), it's a useful little opening or closing activity and took about fifteen minutes with my students.

I didn't get around to posting this sooner, but this is the activity I planned for my students.

It's essentially "Go Fish" modified to use the key expressions.

Since I have 8 homerooms that I cycle through and each class is about 35 students, you can adjust the deck size to suit your class. For me, I made six decks per class and 4-6 students played with each deck.

The game is pretty straight forward, the key expressions are:
- Are you interested in...?
- Yes, I'm interested in ...
- No, I'm not interested in...

Note: After playing it a couple times, my Co-T and I added a penalty rule.  If students didn't reply with a full sentence (and were only replying "yes" or "no"), they either had their turn skipped or their classmates inflicted a punishment of their own. lol - So, add that rule if you'd like-!

Here is the powerpoint/activity that I used to accompany the "Are You Interested?" portion of the book. I used human bingo, and in most classes it was a hit, especially because I have a stamp reward system that helped motivate them to finish this quickly.

This is an animal trivia game I made for my students as the second activity class for this chapter. They already sit in groups of six so I gave each group a mini white board to write their answers on. A couple of the words on the slides you will probably have to ask a coteacher to write the Korean translation on the board for (such as "drown," although most students understood after I acted it out, ridiculous or not.) and the +/- range of answers took a bit of time to explain so you might want to change those slides if you don't feel comfortable with them.

Looking at the key expressions:
I'm interested in animals.
That's surprising!

Going through the dialogue, and an animal trivia game that I have taken from here and modified to make it simpler for my students.

Hey there!

Here's a bomb game I've put together using material from Listen and Talk, the dialogue, and "The Life in Ancient Rome." I got the Sponge Bob template from another Waygook user a while ago.

My students are low level, so with each question comes the page number to where they can look for the answer.

Standard Disclaimer: I made these lessons a while ago and I probably used some of previous posters' uploaded work. If you would like individual credit where I have used/stolen/butchered/altered to the point of unrecognisability your work, please message me and I will see to it.

Hurrah, animals.
'Run for the hills!'
'They're coming from the hills, sir.'
'Run away from the hills! If you see a hill, run the other way!'
