Thanks for the posts. I'm new here and am not good with PowerPoint stuff, but I have many game ideas and different versions or additional rules that I hope will help everyone.

With the 'Pass the Ball' game, you can have the students say each word of the sentence while they pass the ball, or each vocabulary word of the day. This way, teachers will not complain that the students are not talking enough. Also, students will be more focused on saying the words than trying to sabotage where the ball goes.

This a powerpoint to accompany the textbook. I used the pictures I saw in this lesson to make the PPT. Lots of vocab.
Focuses on: "What's this?" "What's that?"
Go over the book material in one class, then the next class, use this PPT
I use a ball and throw it to one student, who then answers.

This is an Annoying Orange Game for the vocab used in the chapter.
I felt I was struggling a bit to glean enough vocabulary from the book to even make a game. I don't believe the people who write these books have ever been teachers. The lesson just does not have a lot to it.

Focuses on:
"What is it?"
" It's a _____"

I put in the word "shadow"... be sure to go over that before doing this game.

What's this? Guessing Game

The ppt is for part one of lesson one (pages 20-21). It has a short review of three things from the first lesson. I have black silhouette pictures that turn into colorful pictures of the objects (pen, cup, box, dog, bird, kangaroo). Low level student can ask you what it is by reading the question and then you can teach them the word. Higher level students will easily be able to guess the words.

For the game I used the coin flick game from the first post on this thread.

How to play:
Put your coin (or eraser) on the starting point.
Flick it.
Do the dialog with the next player (filling in the blank with whatever picture your coin/eraser stopped on).
Mark that spot with your name, initials, or a shape.
The player with the most pictures at the end wins.

Rules:
If you flick it and it goes off the paper => miss that turn.
If you flick it and it does not stop on any picture => miss that turn.
If you flick it and it stops on a spot that is already marked => miss that turn.
If you flick it and it stops on two or more pictures => chose only one of them.

The game is best when played with 2-4 players. More than 4 and they wait too long between turns.

Lesson 2 Vocabulary ppt
*simple Korean cues for lowlevel students.
The picture of the dog is my own, since my kids recognize him (pictures of him all over my desk). You can either keep it or change it, not like it's a personal photo of anyone.

It's rather basic for the beginning of the lesson, and I will probably add to it as the lesson moves on.

I adapted a PPT made by NanaCorea entitled 'Grade 3 Lesson 2.1'[/i]. I adapted this for 2nd Period. It includes directions for the 'Speak & Play' portion of the class. I added on Slide 1 a link for a Gogo youtube video that fits perfectly (5 mins long).

Hey all! I think this lesson lends itself really well to a hot seat game. So I took frisone82's *very good* vocabulary powerpoint and added a hot seat game at the end. Very basically, a hot seat game is like charades in reverse: The student in front tries to guess the picture behind them, based on the charades the rest of the class is doing. I wouldn't try this with anything older than third and *maybe* first semester fourth grade, but when they're young enough, this can be a lot of fun for them.

So, the way I would do it so they are practicing their sentences is write 'What is this?' and 'What is that?' on the board, point to the sentences I want the kids to say, and have them all ask before I change the slide and the student in front guesses. Of course, I would have the student in front say "It is..." and not just the thing.

I played the cd rom on my computer, took screen shots, and then cropped them to show just what I needed for the slide.

Here is a Show Time PPT. I do listen and repeat for Practice 1 and then Practice 2 and 3 I let the class do as a whole. In groups they practice the dialogue and then each group gets to present their skit. Enjoy :)

This is a game for ABC time (part 3). I made a guess the first letter G-L game. I am going to put them in teams of 4 and give each team a whiteboard, marker, and eraser. From there on, the game is pretty self-explanatory. The kids try to guess the first letter of every picture on the ppt slide. Each correct guess is worth a point. The team with the most points is the winner.
