I used a power point of yours for "Dear Future Me" and made minimal changes (just to reflect my own direction with the lesson) and it went really well.  I'll do the same with your 'A' pptx - thank you very much!  I love the reveal slides, group competition works very well with my students.

Oh my goodness.... you're a beautiful person who does beautiful work <3

How did you do the charades game? Was it, whichever team got the point, got to mark it as bingo, and the other teams were just out of luck? Like... ultimately, how was a "winner" decided. I mean ultimately, whoever the winner is doesn't matter as long as their practicing the language. But I'm just curious about the goal of the game.

Thank you :)

For my class, I use another's teacher's PPT for the warm up. However, I included two games. The first game, is the card game war and the second game is a board game.

You will need decks of cards and game pieces.
In order to play war:
A deck of card is evenly distrubuted. All the cards are face down. Each person will reveal their top card. The highest card wins the round. For this version, one student will role a die. The student will ask everyone, "Are you good at ____?" Whatever is the die lands on. The students will respond depending if they win or not.

I also included a board game.

You will have to print and cut out the dice.

These are my activities for the period 2 of the chapter. The lesson is focuses on what's wrong.

I start my class with a rebus puzzle. The answer is "broken heart".

Then there is a Treasure Hunt/"Battleship Style" class PPT.

Afterwards, the students can play a go fish game. For the game, print the paper double sided. I included my student's name in it. I saved it as a PDF the sheets since it's the only way I can get the settings to print double sided. I can't read the Korean on my computer.

This is a Pokemon Bomb Game for Lessons 1 and 2. My boys absolutely loved this game. We had to keep reminding them that it was just a game, they got so competitive.

I found another ppt from another book.  It talks a bout culture comparisons, but also school life.  Some of it can be used with chapter 10, but some of it can be edited or cpoied and pasted for chapter 2.

Slide 26, school life in America.

Some activity cards.

Students can play go fish if you print 2-3 copies for each group. After, they can play the stacking game using the phrase "What are you good at? "I'm good at a, b, c" etc. Another good one is the card match. Students put the picture words on one side, the word cards on the other. One person picks up a picture card and a word card, if they match they keep the cards.

Here is a lesson I did for this chapter that worked really well.
Because the students were practicing “He/She is good at (verb)+ing,” I decided to do a lesson on superheroes.
  • First, we practiced using the expression by describing superheroes. I wrote “He she is good at _____ing.” on the board. As a class, we made a list of verbs that we could use to describe superheroes.
  • I used these clips when the students were describing superpowers. I showed the clip and the students would write a sentence in the form “He/She is good at ________.”
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlINHSnUx9k  start at 1:40 (I showed about 30 seconds).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5v2qBBD-gE Start at 1:50 and stop before Dash starts running on water. Show from 2:18 for the next slide (He is good at running on water).
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXtHmqRWd3s (Show the whole clip)
  • Next, we briefly looked at “weaknesses.”
  • The students made their own Superheroes using the handout (attached)
  • The students interviewed each other about their heroes.
  • Last (if we had time) a few students presented their heroes to the class.

Note: I know there isn’t a good gender balance in this ppt. That’s mostly because I work at an all-boys middle school. Most of the boys wanted to make male superheroes.

Did anyone else get a duplicate of the third grade CD with a second grade label for this book? I wanted to use the book PPT for this lesson but don't have any second grade material. :(

**Disclaimer: The original ppts/ materials are not mine, thank you to the creators. They have been modified by me to fit this chapter.**

I used this lesson with great success for my open class with the parents.

1. PPT review of the target language and Hidden Picture game
2. Bingo (need 2 bingos to win)
3. Pokemon Bomb game
4. Wrap-up by selecting a few students (or all of them) to practice the target language.

This lesson took 45 minutes.
