i am using these cards for a "slap game" change the words if you want to just stick to what this? my kids are too smart and i am teaching this, that, these , and those.
every group gets a set and they will say "what this?" you say a card and the have to slap it to get a point.

Are you guys (and gals) out there required to teach the "Into the world portion of the book? I am only at my Elem school one day a week, so I don't know what a normal elem school teachers schedule is like. For this lesson I guess it's something having to do with 'tradtional writing utensils and mediums' from what my coteacher told me... Any ideas on some fun games for this?

I know they would enjoy a bomb game, but not enough material/they are 3rd grade/low level for that.

Thanks for the ideas

Here's a Spongebob game for this lesson. I'm using it for period 3. The last slide has a picture of me on it, so replace that if you use this.

Here's a PPT to accompany the "Into the World" segment (as best as I understood it, given its complete lack of English). Basically, it's just a slideshow of different world writing systems. The way I've usually done these (previously only with older students, so we'll see how it goes) is to try to get the students to guess the country first.

Here's a Monsters Inc. game for the lesson.  I added more things than the standard pen, pencil, eraser, etc.

The review covers using "an" with words using vowels and a game.  Taken from another waygook user and enhanced.

The telepathy game includes all the alphabet letters in lessons' 1 and 2 and the key expressions from chapter 2.

cheers

Here are 2 games I used in this chapter. SPEAKING game simpsons bomby kind of game. I changed the font because they're so young, but didn't bother to correct the capital letters, because, well, i didn't feel like it. if you do, feel free. This also contains a WRITING game for lesson 2, telepathy game, which they loved. ENJOY

Numbered Heads Together

The explanation's in the Powerpoint, but in case it isn't clear enough:
Students get in groups of four. Each student has a number (Student 1, Student 2, Student 3, and Student 4). Display the word on screen, then give the students a few seconds to talk among themselves and make sure each member of the group knows how to spell out the word. Then, the teacher picks a number. For example, if you pick 3, the Student 3 in each group has to spell the word. This is a great way to get students to teach each other the alphabet.

This game is tailored to this chapter-- all words contain only the letters A-L.
