This is a review lesson; contains some files that I captured from the CD so they can play in the PPT.  You'll probably have to re-insert the video files into the ppt on your school computer.  I use Powerpoint 2013 and playing it on the school computers (usually Powerpoint 2003) they don't play automatically; unless I re-insert them.  Anyway, they're in WMV format.

Chapter 11 Per 3

The first part are speaking activities.  Just used a lot of clipart to make an "I-Spyish" activity.  I would printout some of the slides for the students so they can work in pairs; if you have a large class.

The second part is a phonics lesson /sn .  The snake picture book idea isn't mine; I just added some other words and phrases.

I know this is an old thread, but my school uses this book and.... doesn't this conversation seem absolutely unnatural to anyone else?

A: Look at the cats. They're cute

B: How many cats?

A: Two cats.

I mean... there's no verb in B's sentence. How many cats does she have? Maybe he can't see all the cats. How many of the cats she has are cute? I don't know, maybe she has some ugly cats too. How many cats are there in the world? He might be an inquisitive boy.

This broken "how many" question seems to be the basis for the whole chapter.

Yeah, you're absolutely right. It's teaching "How many pigs?" as if that's a complete thought, and it's not. I make sure to remind my students every time that it's "how many pigs are there?" and that's the sentence we practice.

I'm willing to bet money the writers ripped this chapter off this youtube song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBauqARk8lY

And just didn't bother to make it into real English

Hi!  Here is a board game that features speaking, listening and reading.

It uses the dialogue
A: How many _________s?
B: # _______________s.

The animal is determined by the board, and the number is determined by the card.

Enjoy!

I found a bunch (too many, really) of applicable songs for this lesson.

I made a Word Twinkle - a PPT I show for periods 2-on after introducing vocabulary to refresh the students at the beginning of every class.

It's fine for any period, but I taught "5 Little Monkeys" during period 4. We listened to the song, used the PPT to learn lyrics, and sang the song. At the end of class (just two minutes, really) we danced to the song using the Wii dance.

Zombie Town ~ 3D animated intro. Make sure you watch it all once before class, so the videos can buffer ~ Link Below:
