2014 Grade 3 Daekyo 1 - 9. What Time Is It?
« on: August 11, 2014, 12:16:57 PM »
A ppt that I found here but tweaked.

Probably won't be a lot of stuff, because there are plenty of standard "What Time is it?" materials on here.

Here's a video. It was written for 4th grade, so use your disgression.

What time is it?

"What time is it?/It's _________-7:30-7:50-8:20-9:03-12:45-6:53-9 o'clock./Let's have dinner at 6 o'clock./It's 9am-pm./It's time for _________.-breakfast-school-lunch-bed./I'm late/You're late."

I got this idea off of one of the other "What time is it?" threads.  It's a great game for the speaking lesson called "What Time Is It, Mr. Wolf?"  The powerpoint is just a basic powerpoint that explains how to play.  Have fun.

Here's a PPT that I modified from the 4th grade chapter on time. It includes a slide where they guess what our target phrase will be (a picture of three fingers, an "o," and a clock) and introduces all the language from this chapter.

We'll finish up with the "What time is it, Mr. Wolf" game, so thanks for that, forestelf86 :)

My students enjoyed learning this song and it matches the lesson well.

They really loved this one from High School Musical 2!  I used it to open the first lesson of the class.

Connect Four game for period 3. Print double-sided and cut in half. Students have to read the word before they fill in the bubble. It helps to show one of those short commercials from the 70's about how to play the game so that students can understand why they should start at the bottom. I also demo'ed the game by drawing it on the board and playing with my co-teacher. Don't let them write the numbers above the words! It defeats the purpose.  There are numbers on one side and colors on the other.

Here's a VERY BASIC reading PPT. I broke down the words into manageable pieces and had them repeat after me. For the 'gh' in eight, I put a finger over my lips to show that it's silent and they seemed to understand. The last slide shows all the numbers out of order so you can have them practice.

As always, Starfall works really well as a time filler to practice reading. I like to do it at the end of class or before class.

AND a song for period 2 that was way better than the book. I love this man.

Here is an activity for the Sounds and Letters section where students have to guess letter t or d. When students see slide I make the sound of the letter and the students guess what letter. Students then say the letter, the sound, and the word. Here is also an intro ppt.

here are clocks 5-12.  i printed them and put them on the board for the classic hammer game:  two students at the front, facing the back, each with a hammer.  they ask "What time is it?"  I say the time and they turn and hit the right clock.  good times.

Here are some Time Bingo sheets I made similar to someone elses. I included the 00:30 hand so that they could practice that. All they have to do is draw on the hour hands and make sure they know the difference between 11:00 and 11:30. I had a lot of students claiming bingo when they didn't actually have it.

Here's an entertaining spelling numbers 1-10 video. My kids loved it and spelled along with the song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HG361wJyDY0&index=39&list=PLOBaYoD_7S9tmTZyh_joHhjSoPG0beIKV

GUESS GAME: Here's a simple individual reading/listening game I threw together. Print one for each student then of the two choices they check one box and draw the clock's hands to indicate that time. Then together the class asks, "What time is it?" and I respond with one of the two choices. If they have the same picked they get a point.

WRITING GAME: Each student writes a sentence using one number as shown. Then they all stand up. As the numbers are eliminated if they wrote that number they sit down. Last students standing with the correct sentence get a stamp/reward.

READING SPEAKING GAME: Writing/speaking game. Each set of partners gets a half sheet of slide one. They play RPS. Loser asks the winner, "What time is it?" The winner responds "It's ___ o'clock" according to which space they want to color in. Play RPS again, repeat. First student to get a fully connected line connecting either up and down or across wins. The other two slides are to show for examples/instructions.

Halloween theme telepathy game. You will need whiteboards and dry erase markers.

Put powerpoint and music files in one folder on your computer so that it works correctly.

This is not my template- downloaded from viva_wanderlust and Chitown312 on another thread.

(Note: two of the questions have "salamander." This is a reference to the spelling numbers song mentioned earlier in this thread: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HG361wJyDY0&index=39&list=PLOBaYoD_7S9tmTZyh_joHhjSoPG0beIKV . If your kids haven't seen the video, you'll want to change those slides to something else.)

I made an intro PPT with book vocab, and a listening game for period 1.
The game is for pairs, they each use a different colored pen to circle the words when I call them out. So it's good for listening and reading. 1 point for each one they circle first. They count at the end, whoever has more points wins.

Both PPT's are pretty plain looking so feel free to jazz them up, sorry but I'm tired haha...

Hope these are okay...

your introduction ppt - L9.1.1 - did you lift that from another thread? because some of the vocab in there isn't in this textbook at all. especially the review part a the beginning.

some of the korean is wrong in that PPT too. and for the numbers you don't use '일, 이, 삼...' for the hours, you use '하나, 둘, 셋....'.

also some of the slides in here are way too complicated for a 3rd grade level. you're teaching them things like "four oh eight" when they are only just learning numbers and how to tell the time in english for the first time.

i corrected these issues, here is the revised ppt.

other than that i actually like this ppt, despite what you might think from the above  :P

There wasn't much in the way of extra materials for this lesson so I made a little worksheet and word search using the vocab.
