2015 Grade 6 Cheonjae 3 - 1. I'm in the Cooking Club
« on: February 24, 2015, 12:43:54 PM »
Hi guys!

Woo! New year, new books!

I made some game cards for Lesson 1, 3rd period.
The game is basically the same one as in the book, however I wanted to give my students the chance to write what they wanted, instead of just sticking to what's on the card. I also wanted to prevent my kids from just matching pictures, which is why all the characters are different.
Of course, I'll be writing down vocabulary on the board plus a sample sentence.

I got the images from classdojo.com, under resources.

Update: Made a writing activity for the 4th period.

I made a short PPT to practice the new characters from this textbook. I read them from the book first and had the students repeat after me. Then we read them together from the PPT. The practice section gives three sentences to describe a character, and the students had to tell me the name.

Here is another intro ppt too, with some fun GIFs for the key words and practice slides for the key sentences.

Could a moderator please link this thread to the textbooks page?

Here is a simple flying sentences ppt game for warm-up/review. All sentences are taken from the book.

I always do variations of this type of ppt to start every class. Helps remind students what the key expressions are. Usually takes 5 min or less. Thanks to whoever made the original template for this ppt.

Also, I like to do the word unscramble with students usually during the midway point through a chapter. I like turning them into other words (or something that looks like a real word, ha!) if possible as it gets a few laughs out of the students and is more fun to put together rather than just unscrambling the words at random. Here are words from Lesson 1 unscrambled:

hangtiny
slamscoro
larryib
gainred
troobs
slabable
ward
nicesec

Edit: The Sing Along from Section 2 is the tune to Payphone by Maroon 5. Many students will likely catch the tune so I recommend, for those of you who normally skip the songs with your 6th graders, to do this song. Every class wanted to sing it again even a week later.

Here's my very simple introduction PPT for Lesson 1. It introduces the key vocabulary and phrases, with some short practice for students  at the end  :P

I just noticed it and added it. My school picked up this book too. I will be adding things from time to time myself.

I am using this "pass the bomb" game I found in the game templates. There will only be 5-7 minutes left at the end of my class. I have two foam dice the students will pass around. They have to say one vocab word before they pass the bomb. The two students with the bombs will have read the dialog. It's simple and the students seem to enjoy it.

I made a Key Words and Expressions ppt for the first lesson (has both English and Korean) as well as a worksheet which has new words, key sentences, and a fill in the blank for Look and Listen.

I made cards to print out for the Listen & Play game in period 1. The kids really liked this game! Just print out the picture slides and post them on the board. I gave each team a different colored fuzzy dice to throw, and one point for each team that hit the correct card.

I'm saving the picture cards to use for other activities in this lesson as well.

Glad to see I am not the only one with this book. Which day(s) does everyone have 6th grade? I have mine on Thur/Fri. Seems there are more for book 2 or they are more active.

Got it. I have this book and the book three of the same company for 5th grade too. Does anyone have that book as well? Directly message me if you post something and I don't see it. I can update it/merge it. Please, avoid duplicating posts if possible.

Just a head's up: There's nothing in the PPT

Thanks Ibehere! I edited my post and changed it to the right one. I forgot that I finished that one at home so the ppt was on my USB, not my school computer. The right one is there now!

Damien, I have mine three times a week, Tues/Wed/Fri.  I'll be adding quite a bit from this book!

Pirates of the classroom to practice "How's it going?" and "What club are you in?"
I really wanted to change "reading club" to book club and "singing club" to music club BUT I kept with the vocab in the book.

I changed up the Speak & Play for period 2. Print out the last slide to use as a game board, and play with the a partner instead. Use the other slides to practice making a dialogue. There is a slide for the dialogue to leave on the screen while they play as well.

For the second lesson, my class usually does a memorization day.

-Disappearing Dialogue for Listen & Speak. (I screen-capped the book CD so it's prettier. Click on the red boxes to reveal the words)
-Handout of scripts for Lesson 1-13 Listen & Speak. (My classes get stamps toward our reward system for memorizing and presenting. These are scans because I hand made the originals due to laziness. ^^)
-Flick game. (This is a pair game. Students put a Go-piece, eraser, etc... on 'START' and flick it. If they land on a box, they have to complete the dialogue using the space they landed on, and then they can claim the box. Bombs are 'lose a turn.' Student with the most spaces wins the game.)

here is my lesson plan and introduction ppt for lesson 1 period 1. Sorry for the late post!

The ppt was created by someone else (thank you! Your graphics were great!) but i edited it so it now includes korean and a breakdown of the sentences :)  I also changed the dialogue to show "How's it going, how are you doing, it's great, and I'm great (Because the conversation "How's it going" "I'm great!" isn't how we would say it...)
