A quick introduction of characters, with a pass the ball game.

Outbreak Virus game.
First pick 4-5 students to have the 'virus' by having them put their heads down (or something secretive). Their goal is to infect everyone.

Everyone else is trying to get points from winning rock paper scissors and having a short dialogue.

If they win rock paper scissors they ask, "What grade are you in?" The loser must answer either the sixth or the first.

No virus response: "I'm in the sixth grade". And the rock paper scissors winner gets one point.

Virus response: "I'm in the first grade." And the asker becomes infected too!

The student with the most points without the virus is the winner.

A ppt and handout showing the students how to do Romanization.

I try to make it clear to them that different people spell their name according to different rules but this is the general way to Romanize Hangeul even if everything doesn't always work out perfectly.

I also explain that some Korean family names are sometimes spelled in a certain way because that's how people have traditionally spelled them.

I made a worksheet to help the students practice spelling and writing the ordinal numbers. My school will test them on this. The sheet uses a specific font, so I'm including a word file and font for you to edit, or a pdf if you just wanna use it as is without changing it and messing around with the font.

I also adapted a go fish game that someone else made on this site to use the vocab for this lesson. Not only does it help the students practice the spellings of the key words, but it also helps them practice saying "how do you spell" which is also part of the target language for this lesson. I did go fish with some students during camp and they really enjoyed it. There is a ppt that explains how to play really well so I've got high hopes for this one.

Here is a dice game I created to play with the listen and do section on page 11. The PPT is attached for instructions. The students play with their desk partner and are either the pink or the green section. They then write the numbers 1-6 in any order under each picture. First student asks the other what grade one of their pictures is in. They respond with what they've written. Then the student that asked rolls the dice and hopes to get the same number as the grade that the student is in. If it's a match then they circle that picture. First one to have circled all of the pictures, or the most when time runs out, is the winner.

Here are two fun games that I got the ideas and PPTS from on the previous textbook's thread and tweaked a bit.

First: The hotel game. Each student in the team will be assigned a letter. I will call out a description of a hotel room and a letter. Example: "Fifth floor, third room, student C." Whoever is assigned letter C in their team will race to the screen and touch room 503 quickly, trying to beat the other team's letter C student.

Second game: Will get the kids speaking. The directions are explained on the PPT to show the kids. I will probably play until there are 6 or so studentss left standing then bring them to the front to try to guess who the killers are.

My students last year loved blazing pens. Thanks to whoever put together this great template. I'm worried it might by a little too hard, we'll see how it goes. I like to make it a race and have the students raise their notebooks over their head once they finish. I make sure they know that they are not to shout once they finish, or I'll ignore them. That helps to keep it from getting too crazy. To keep the same few students who are the quickest from winning all the time I'll get really picky with their handwriting or drop their pencil on the floor. I hope your students like it!
