The dialogue cartoons for these new books are REALLY bad.  Here's something to spice it up a bit.

I start with the even chapters so I made this lesson for period 1. Take whatever! Also the game is basically a race. my students sit in rows and they pass a ball to the front. the first team to stand up with the ball gets the chance to take a shot and guess the sickness/ailment.

Lesson plan for 6.2.1

Lesson includes:
chat about the winter hols, review of textbook characters, textbook video, new vocabulary and grammar, textbook listen & do, textbook chant, textbook car train game

Notes:
- no prepwork if you start with ch. 2 like I have been assigned. You might like to remove slides 1, 2, and 5~11 if you've already taught ch. 1.
- To fill in the time if you take slides out, the teacher's manual has a photocopiable worksheet on P38 of the resource book.
- I also recommend collecting the cards from the students in case you can use them for something else in a future lesson.

Lesson plan for 6.2.2

Lesson includes:
remove the blocks review, textbook video, textbook listen and repeat, notes, new phrases, textbook talk together, textbook "get treatment at the hospital" game

Notes:
- minimal prepwork: print and cut out the note tables

Lesson plan for 6.2.3

Lesson includes:
pick up the correct card review, textbook speak and read, textbook read and do, textbook read and play dice game, textbook fun with sentences

Notes:
- minimal prepwork: print and cut out a fair few sheets of the cards (I'm doing 10 pages for my classes of 30)
- have enough dice for 1 per group of 4 students

An Elimination game for Period 1 or 2. Very simple as my students are very low level.

LOL scubaguy this is awesome! Quite "sick" indeed.

This video might be a good motivator for 6th graders. They won't understand EVERY word, but it's funny.

Song starts at 2 minutes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ch-dQ-AlPs8&index=33&list=WL

Cool song that I used last year as an intro for the 'I have a fever' chapter in the old books.

'Try listen out for the English' 'what did you hear?', 'what do you think today's class is about?' etc etc :)

Kids loved it last year - here's to hoping this year's kids are just as gross :P

How do you get the powerpoint to uncover the x and o?

I put the slide to full screen to test it out and it doesn't seem to be working properly.

Thanks so much! Great game!

Here is a game i just made quickly!
Divide students into 6 groups (my classes will have 4 students per team)

print out the sentence drill G6L2P5 sheets and fold them (so students cant see the sentences and tape them up around the room in random spots

students will have 10 seconds (or 15.. whatever you feel is good) to choose a sentence number run to see the sentence and come back to their sheet to write it down... they must have perfect spelling and grammar.

they take turns so there will only be one student standing/running around from each team at a time

they can only go to one sentence per turn.. so a smart student cannot go to sentence 1, 2, and 3 in the same 10 second turn...

team who can write down all sentences perfectly first wins

this game worked well in my winter camp using the camp rules on the first day!

A Secret Code Game - adapted from a previous year to include updated phrases for Lesson 2: I have a headache.  Works best in groups or pairs.

Cowboy Game: Illnesses

I like adding a ball to the mix so the whole class feels involved. But if you have a large class, this may waste too much time.

The class is divided into two teams. Students line up and face away from the TV. Each student in the back of their line gets a ball. When they hear the gunshot they pass their team's ball to the front in turn. When it gets there, the student look at the TV and says the illness in the key expression "I have a ______."

First team gets a point.

All thanks to the original creator of the game.

Thanks for your great PPTs. I downloaded a PPT from here and revised it to make it simpler to introduce the topic and make adding "-ache" more visual. The rest of the first period I won't use a PPT, so that's why it stops suddenly.

After practicing with flashcards and such, we will do Simon Says game. "I have a fever/I have a headache" etc. with motions. If I just say "fever" and the student does the action, then he is out. If they feel ready, I will let another student be the Simon. My students love Simon Says and it helps to put motions together with the words

A 4 corners listening game for period 1.
The way I do it is students will pick a corner and ask me all together "What's the matter?" and I'll answer when I reveal the slide. I added cough since my students learned these ailments in the old 5th grade textbooks so we're throwing in some extra words this time. You can teach it or just copy paste the other 5 sicknesses to replace cough.

Liar Card Game

My students love this game (& so do I) - so fun!

You can use the cards on page 11 in the back of the book (Listen & Play).

Put students in groups of 4 or so, and have each student tear out their cards.. and mix them all together face down. Deal out all of the cards.

Students can put down as many cards as they want, and say "I have a fever", etc.

If another student doesn't believe them.. they call "liar" and look at the cards. Whoever was wrong must pick up the entire pile of used cards into their hand.

The student with no cards is the winner.

I made a PPT to practice key expressions. Have the last slide up on the screen as the kids are playing.
Have fun ^^

Dice bingo. Print out one sheet for two students as this is a partner activity. I will reuse for different classes by putting the sheets in plastic files. Students will write on it with magic markers and erase.

We will explain more with demonstration in class, but it's pretty self explanatory.

Good for period 2: Practicing sickness and advice
