Lesson 9-1
Introduction lesson covering Key Words and Expressions in both English and Korean. Ppt and worksheet.

Lesson 9-2
Connect Four. You can play with the class as a whole (divide into red/blue teams), or print out the black and white versions and have them play in pairs.
Also, added Disappearing Dialogue retroactively. =]

Lesson 9-3
Blazing Pens. I play this with small whiteboards, although you could play using their notebooks or whatever else. Students have X seconds (I do 10-15 seconds depending on the class) to write down the correct word/sentence. Students who have the correct word or correct sentence (with correct punctuation and capitalization) get a point.

Lesson 9-5
Make a comic. Mixed up sentences related to Act Out. Students have to fill in the blanks of the dialogue, then put the sentences order, and then draw a picture for each one. If  you have extra time you can have them read/show it in front of the class.

Lesson 9-6
Super Mario Review Bomb Game.

Hey! I took the slides from the above poster and changed them around a little bit to include more.

At the end are two slides with dialogues. The first one is for use with the phone from page 35 at the back of the text book. I used that for a survey bingo type thing, where students had to walk around and speak with their friends, then mark off their friends answer on their phone. (I want to take a picture! - Okay, let's go! - mark off the take a picture icon on the phone) Students had to get all 6 to finish.

The last couple slides are cards to be used for a go fish game. They use the same pictures as the intro ppt so the students should be okay with them for the most part. Put on the final dialogue slide during the activity so the lower level kids can keep up.

Thanks Paul for great powerpoints. I modified his from Gr6 Lesson8 about phone calls. I left one example if someone else answers the phone for exposure to the students. It's Avengers theme and not all the 'stresses' fit up anymore.

Thanks for the intro ppt! I changed some things around, I noticed an increase in understanding and retention when I formatted it this way.  Allows them to make links between the words and sentences.

Also, I attached a Minecraft speaking board game.  The first two slides are for 5th grade, the next two are for 6th grade of the same book version.  Just print the boards and laminate if you don't want them to get destroyed!

My co-teacher always asks me to make a PPT to support the Into the World. So here is one for the topic of emergency phone numbers around the world. I thought it would be boring but somehow the students liked looking at different fire trucks and police uniforms.

Cheers for the Minecraft game Inge! This is a relatively challenging (and frankly a bit awkward) chapter and I've got a few really low level 5th graders this year, so I scaled your game back to the pure textbook material, but also slipped in a few super simple practice slides before demoing the game on the big screen.

Apologies for the weird aspect ratio. Had to change to A4 to get the printer to accept the board page.

Here is a 4 page worksheet!  It's from a different chapter but I changed the sentences to relate in some way.  (Thank you to the original poster...i don't know who you are but the worksheet is simple and engaging)

I did page one and two in my lowest level class today and they really liked it.  I think they find worksheets like this mentally stimulating.

I also attached a tongue twister for the letter B.
First I did fun with sounds in the book.
Then I played story bots B song:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hGFJW3LZ98&index=20&list=PLbLq5UL6LUI3WHJqsvrbp6HreyZSgY09r

Then we read the four first sentences together of the tongue twister.
and then I showed the whole thing, we read it slowly together first, then i challenged my coT to say it, and then she challenged me, and my class gave me a 20s time limit...(It can be easily done in under 15.)
They loved it ^^

Oh! I made a "what's behind' reading game.
It's simple.  make teams (I do six teams, you can go up to 10)
Team reads sentence, you click sentence, it disappears and team gets points.
BUT...i mixed it up. I threw in some minus, big windfalls, all teams lose, all teams gain, etc....just to throw some curveballs. >:)

let the reading gamesssss begin.

Edited up one of my older Sentence Searches to better match this textbook. Focuses solely on the "I want to [ ]." element of the target language. Solutions attached.

I take zero credit for all of these attachments. Somebody else put in the hard work - all i did was take the games and edit them to the vocabulary for this chapter :) Did it in a hurry for a surprise class so just run through it quickly and check for any mistakes before using ~

just a note on the knockout game - there is no last slide to print out as in the original game. I changed it slightly by having students write a sentence each round. I only have 13 kids per class so I had each one read a sentence and students sat down when their written sentence was read. If they sat before having a chance to read then that was just their bad luck ~~~~

I made this Telepathy style Stand Up Sit Down game. Good for Reading + Writing. The kids really liked it. Instructions are on the PPT. I also got them to read their chosen sentence aloud. It takes about 10-15 minutes but you can always add more rounds if you want.  Pretty simple, but fun. :)

I made this picture/sentence game for writing and practicing 'I want to...'.

It's played in groups of four or five (two people can have the same picture).

Give an allotted time (3-5 min) and have students write as many sentences as they can. There are verbs and definitions provided but they can use ones not there.

After the time has run out have students with the same picture stand up and read one sentence. If the student reads a sentence that the other groups don't have, they get one point. If another group has it, then no point is given. If the groups used the verb in the same way, then I didn't give a point. If they joined two sentences, I broke them down (I want to sing and dance would become I want to sing and I want to dance). It made it harder and students had to be more creative.

Also, you can laminate and have students write the sentences in their notebook to save paper.

I was asked to prepare a ppt. on The Wright Brothers for the Art and Great People section of the chapter. Tried to use most basic language for a tricky topic to teach to low level 5th graders. Hope this can help someone!

I made a game based the Nintendo game "Splatoon!" It combines the concept of Splatoon and the game play of a simpler roll-the-dice ESL game I've seen around.

I cut out a bunch of small paper squares in two different colors to prepare for this game. So, just be forewarned, that's a lot of cutting! (But once you're done, you can use them again for some other games~)

-2 students play rock, paper, scissors
-The winner rolls the dice and says the sentence according to that number.
-Then the winner puts that number of colored paper squares on the grid worksheet.
-Repeat! Set a timer for about 2 minutes.
-When the timer finishes, count the papers in your color. The student with the most squares on the grid is the winner.

Line BINGO game for the first lesson.  Students get a strip of 7 pictures and they cut them up and make their own line bingo board.  The dialogue is:
Teacher:  Is ___ there?  (I'm just going to pick a student class)
Student:  Speaking.
Teacher:  I want to ______ (take a picture, see animals, eat a sandwich, buy a book, play soccer, write an email, go to the museum).

The students who have the correct card on the far left or far right of their line bingo say, "Ok, let's go" and take that card away.  (They can only take a card away if it's on the outside).  Keep playing until someone removes all their cards.  (If you've never played this game before, you have to keep calling all the cards...don't remove a card after you've said it like you would in regular bingo.  Usually I keep my cards in a bag and once I say one, I'll just put it back in and mix them around).

Attached is a PPT with the bingo strips and also a second slide with larger cards for the teacher to use.

I personally love survey activities since it allows me to stand back and let the students run the classroom while practicing their reading and speaking skills with the goal of authentic communication. This also reassures students that they are able to actually speak and communicate in the target language (even if it is a made up situation). So i created this short survey activity for the students.

-This was something we did near the end of our 2 hour lesson for the week for 5차시.
-First we went over different things that we could "do."
-Next we went over the dialogue and what a dialogue should have.
-Then I handed out different schedules to the students (I have 10 students, thus there are 10 different schedules attached).
-Each student must recreate the telephone conversation with another student and figure out a day and time to meet that fits into both of their schedules. Having different schedules requires students to really figure out when they can fit in the activity.
-Then students must go to another student and propose a different activity.
(If there need be a winner, then the first student to have the most different events planned wins).

Even my lower level students were able to participate since i left the dialogue up and they got to repeat it with many different people. This activity took maybe 10-15 min.
