The usual from me, if/when I make more ppt's I'll edit this post & attach them here. Happy teaching!

Period 1 Intro: Pretty self explanatory. (Ideal for the first period)

Slap game: Divide the class into two teams, 2 students come up to the front and have their back facing the TV screen with fly swatters. I'll ask the question "Where is the ____?" Both students then turn around & the first person to slap the correct place on the TV using the fly swatter gets a point for their team. (Ideal for the first period)

Period 2 Intro: Added some slides to review giving directions. (Ideal for the second period)

Pass the Ball game: Instructions included in the PPT. (Ideal for the first or second period)

Period 3 Intro: Basically the same as the Period 2 Intro, I just added an extra slide for the expression "Where do you live?" & "I live in _____." From lesson 10 onwards I'll probably combine the Period 2 & 3 Intro's into 1 PPT. (Ideal for the third period)

Pirates of The Classroom game: Instructions included in the PPT. Slightly different from other pirate games as this time there's a big map & students have to give directions to the box. Grabbed this from the 2012 YBM thread & modified the language a bit for this years edition. Also uploading the song file to go with it, keep it in the same folder if you want music during the game. (Ideal for the third period)

Baskin Robbins 31 game: Students play in pairs, taking turns reading either 1, 2 or 3 boxes. Whoever reads box 31 is the loser. (Ideal for the fourth period)

Blazing Pens game: Is there anyone who doesn't know how to play blazing pens??? :P (Ideal for the fifth period)

Heads up 7 up (cheers to the creator of template, I added pictures for this lesson.):

-6 students come to the front, give each a picture card. All seated students close their eyes and then the 6 students with the cards each give their cards to someone seated. Those who got a card need to stand up and look at the PPT to see who goes first. They need to say the expression on their card and guess who gave it to them. If they guess correctly, they can take the person at the front's place. If not, they have to sit down.

Added printable cards: print x2 or once (if your 6 initial students will remember their cards)

Mystery box game; all of it is scrambled words/sentences, so it's best for reading/writing time.

Dice X O- make a line of 4 team game.

- Print one page per group of 4.
-Instructions on page, but 2 teams of 2 students in a group (thus 4 in a group), student 1 in team 1 rolls the dice, looks at the number and says the expression for that pic of the line going down, "Where is the ____?", then student 2 in team 1 rolls the dice, looks the number and says the expression for the pic in horizontal line, "turn left, ect."- mark x where the 2 meet.

- Repeat for team 2 and they have to mark O where their two expressions meet.
- 4 O/X's in a line= 1 point.

presents from me!

Fill in the map activity, stolen from an older thread and someone else. Edited a bit to match this chapter. Thanks to the original creator! i used this in Period 1. Also a brief intro PPT.

Information gap activity. Can use whenever, prob best for Period 1, 2, or 3. Print out slides 2 and 3. Students work in pairs. 1 student gets the map marked 'A', and 1 student gets 'B'. They have to say the dialog to fill in the missing places. Leave the last slide open on the screen.

Then two reading activities. The first one - the more simple one - should be pair or group work. Students read the slides and try to find the place.

The second reading activity is more complicated. I gave it as individual work. NOTE: This contains a map from google maps of an area in my city. I'm posting this as an example of what you can do, using a screenshot from your own city. You will have to change this to use it, but the template will give you an idea of what I did and can be edited pretty easily.

Then a worksheet for the writing period. Also a treasure map writing activity I got from an older thread. Students choose a start place and an end place anywhere on the map, and must write directions of how to get from the start to the end.

enjoy!

Here's a low-prep writing activity that my students enjoyed. You could use a handout, online map, or powerpoint, but I just drew the attached picture on the board before class instead.

The magnets represent treasure. On the back of the magnets, I wrote a number (1, 2 or 3) with a board marker representing how much that treasure is worth. Students race in groups to get the treasure by writing directions to it, taking turns as writers and following the textbook writing format. Students can aim for any treasure, but must write on top of their whiteboards the number they are targeting. When they finish they put up their hands. The teacher(s) check and if the directions are correct, give that group the magnet (only one team gets each treasure). When all treasure has been claimed, they add up the points on the magnets to see who has the most.

Including explanation, this took about 15 mins. They go crazy when another team beats them to a treasure, which makes it pretty fun :)

Here is a KABOOM activity that I am using for Story Pot. I found it in an old thread for an old 5th grade book.  Thanks to the orignal poster!  It takes a lot of prep, but it is simple to play.

Put the students into groups and give them the worksheet. Cut the sentences and the KABOOM strips and put them into a bag (the bag we are using is blue with a question mark on it....also I laminated the sentences and the KABOOM strips because I have to do this with 10 classes.). One student in each group will draw a strip of paper.  If it is a sentence, they must write it on the paper.  If it says KABOOM they must start spelling the work KABOOM on the paper.  Whichever team as the least spelling of KABOOM is the winner!

I also made an extra time activity.

I haven't tried this yet, so I am not sure how it will go, but I will update.

I am sorry for so many attachments.  Originally the KABOOM paper and the sentence paper were together, but I erased something and couldn't it get it back, so I just made it on a new paper.

Enjoy!

Update The game went well, but allow 20 minutes for it.  I realized once class started that the worksheet had a mistake on it!  The space to write KABOOM was 7 letters instead of 6!  I have corrected the problem and reattached the worksheet.

And I have added a PowerPoint to check the answers.

Also, we didn't have time to do the extra time activity.  It is because my coT had something planned before we did the book.  If we were just doing the book, there would have been time. However, I have found that giving students something with a word find can be hard because they just want to find the words and not do other activites they are supposed to do before, so be aware of that!

Update #2 I noticed there was a mistake on the sentence sheet and the PPT, so I changed it.  Everything should be ok now.

Comprehension test for Story Pot - Period 6.

I let them write the answers in pairs and tally the scores per group to make it a bit competitive.

This is a listening game for lesson 1.  Print a copy of the map on the last slide and give to each student.  Then the teacher will read directions to the correct grey circle.  The directions should lead to a circle that does NOT have a bomb.  Teacher should right down the directions for each slide before playing.  For example, the first slide is a practice.  Start at 1, "Go straight 3 blocks and turn right".  Students should choose the grey circle next to the park.  There are 8 slides and 2 extra ones just in case.  After the teacher reads the directions, the student should write 1 on the grey circle for 1st directions.  Then for the 2nd directions on the next slide, students should write 2 on the correct circle.  Students really enjoyed it.  Its fun because if they don't listen carefully they will choose a circle with a bomb!

This is a game for chapter 2.  Students can play in groups.  Each group will give directions to the teacher to a specific Mario pipe.  Then click on the pipe to give points.  Some pipes already have the coins showing.  Students should use strategy.  Do they go for the always safe coin pipe or the mystery pipe.  Also, I can't find all the original sound files at the moment.  I hope they still work.  If not you can find Mario sounds to add in for added fun.  Students had a lot of fun. Hope it helps :)

This is a game for chapter 3.  Students will play with a partner, so print 1 map for each partner.  Then have 1 person go first.  Roll 2 dice and and point to the corresponding location.  Then your partner should ask "Where is the ______?".  Then student 1 will give directions to that location.  If correct, student 1 will write their name on that location.  Then student 2 will have a turn.  Keep playing and collect as many locations as you can.  If you land on your partners location, RPS and winner takes or keeps the location.  If you land on your location again, pass to your partner.  It was really fun and it gives the students a lot of speaking practice.

This is a writing game.  Give each student the treasure hunt map worksheet.  Then show the ppt.  Students will write directions to any chest.  Then when all students are finished, click on the chests to show the points.  It worked great and students had to think carefully and write.  :)

My students really enjoyed this game. Thanks so much for creating it. They loved the One Piece theme too. They kept making me show them the points they didn't get when the round was over.

My students enjoyed this activity.

SETUP:
Print out Directions Springfield - Places PRINT. There are two buildings per sheet, so you have to cut the paper in half. Then, fold the paper to prop it up as shown in the Example pic.

The last slide is the map, so make any changes before printing.

Arrange the desks in the classroom and place the buildings on them. They should match the map slide.

GAMEPLAY:
Use Directions Springfield - Places.pptx to go over all the places and to display the map on screen.

I played Boys vs Girls. Two people from each team comes up. One person is the Talker, the other is the Walker.  The Talkers choose a location at random (My students chose a building name out of a bag). Then they both give instructions to the Walkers. The first Walker to pick up the correct building and say the name wins a point for their team.

Thank you to all the users who have posted material that has been so helpful to me.

Here is a pair speaking activity for giving directions. The students must use the target language; “Go straight ___ blocks, turn left/right.”
In Pairs students are given worksheet A. 1 person looks at the picture.1 person looks at the grid.
The person who is looking at the picture gives directions to the person who can NOT see the picture.
Tell the person which block to start on e.g. 4-C
Tell the person which way to face e.g. left, right, straight, down. The person who is listening will follow with their finger on the grid to the finish. They must see if they get to the right block. then they get worksheet B and switch roles. I hope it helps.
