I made a ppt with the proper Giving Tree story (somewhat edited for length and ovcab), along with some vocab and comprehension activities.

I made a PPT for period 1 of this story time 4 lesson. I used a few slides from Mr C's PPT (Thank you Mr C!) and added a couple for characters and then added a disappearing dialogue section for more practice with the story. It's pretty basic, but hopefully will be helpful.

I highly recommend adding some photos of Shel Silverstein when you introduce the author on those PPTs. He looks like a character, himself, so I had fun with some PPT animations to make his face pop up... hehehehe.

Well thanks to everyone that provided materials. Here is the same ppt as above, the only change I made was to add a game called finish the tree.

Essentially, you draw a tree before class and attach a bunch of apples to it(these are at the bottom) from there  you have students answer your questions and write it down. The teams that are right, are allowed to pick apples from the tree (as many as you've said is okay) . The goal of the game is to find all the pieces of your tree before the other teams do. The first finished tree for for the homeless apples win.

This is a game that does take some prep work, you need to print the apples and write the parts on the back (branches, trunk, challenge, rotten, etc.) I made about 40 apples, you don't have to make that many but I had the time. You also need to give the students the piece of the tree they win.

Happy playing :)
