This worksheet was given to me by my coteacher for "busywork" for summer camp. But, I think it is a good practice activity and time-filler for this lesson. Students match the description with the person and then color the correct objects/people.

Intro PPT for period 1

Guess Who speaking game. Can be used for period 2.

Guess Who:

Put your kids in teams. One student will be blindfolded, or have them put their head down. The other students on the team will look at the picture of a person. After the slide disappears (The slides containing the person the students will describe are timed ~~), the students will describe the person to their blindfolded teammate. The student must choose the right picture.

It's better if the students describing cannot see the choices. Some of my kids were cheating ("It's the one one the left") or they would point.

Period 1: A quick review of clothing vocab to go through before the textbook (also useful to print out for, say, bingo visuals). REMOVED After the textbook, I made a ppt using some well-known TV movie people to describe with scaffolded sentences. I think it's really good.  REMOVED
Period 2: For a warm-up I have a slideshow of fashionplate Lady Gaga. REMOVED As usual, a fill-in worksheet of the dialogue in the Look and Say. REMOVED  Closing activity is a pass the ball game, except it's pass the blue suede shoe, with the Elvis song (attached below in case it doesn't embed).  REMOVED
Period 3:  Warm-up is a listening activity.  I have a picture of people at my party.  I describe five of them, and students try to match the person to the description. REMOVED  After the text, I will play the Avengers quiz game (thanks to its creator).  REMOVED
Period 4: Start vwith a vocab unscramble on my English Drop template; second, a reading activity, Who Is It? Each team will read 4 clues describing a character (they are Batman, Shrek, Mickey Mouse, Harry Potter, etc).  The other teams write their guess about who it is on their whiteboard.  Correct guesses earn the team a point.  Wrong guesses earn a point for the team that read the clues.  REMOVED
Period 5: a stations game.  Instructions included.  My kids really enjoy this. REMOVED
I also have a "clothing around the world" ppt (it starts with a snippet of "It's a Small World"),  REMOVED and a project I may use for 6th period, in which students will bring magazine pictures of favorite actors or musicians or whoever, then make a poster with descriptive sentences. REMOVED

Sad to say I rarely see any activities for the first Lesson of any chapter. For this chapter it is no different. BUT, I came up with something easy thats fun for both the T. and Ss., AND eats up as much time as you want.
Find a picture or two of someone you and the kids like ( I typical choose a Harry Potter photo with Hermione). Spend the time describing the picture, i.e. "she has curly brown hair" " He wears glasses". Let the students take time to draw the picture. At the end have them guess who they just drew. Choose the best 1-3 colorings, and post them on your board. THEY LOVE IT!

I edited a Guess Who game I found elsewhere on the site.

My plan is to print out a couple copies and laminate them/stick them in a protective sleeve so students can X out incorrect choices.

Because there is no reason to use Korean during this game, I'm thinking of a silly punishment for if I hear any Korean during the game.

If you have a small class, it will work well as a partner game, if you have a large class, Boys vs. Girls is always a winner in my classroom...

This is really simple, but the students had fun guessing. Could always add to make it longer.

Period 4
"Pass The Bomb" speaking AND reading game.

I start every team with 5 points. The "bomb" starts at one end of the class room. Each student must read the (same) phrase on the screen before passing the ball to the next student. If it explodes, the student who has the ball loses 1 point for their team.

Concept is not mine~ I just edited the original PPT for this chapter  ;D Enjoy!

Here is another "Guess Who" Game that I used as a listening activity for Period 1.

Basically have a description ready for each character, read it out loud, and have students cross out characters who don't match. Then, let them guess. They liked this game board because they know there characters well.

Alternatively, you could do this as a partner game for Period 2 (speaking).

(The spy slide at the beginning of the PPT was a warmup activity where I described the minion and they had to guess who the spy was)

Who am I? game.
The students will ask the questions (What does she look like? or What is she wearing). They will have 5 chances. It's an elimination game. The students will choose which characters to eliminate.
You have to click on the letter/numbers, not the picture.
The last two slides are the script. I would really like some feedback. Thanks

Some material I used during camp, which I found here somewhere a while ago. Thank you to the people who originally made the material! I've edited some as I saw necessary for my kids.

WRITE DRAW PASS:
prep- print and cut half A4 (long ways)
*You can even do this activity w/o the printed paper. Simply cut smaller pieces of paper and staple at the top corner like a flip book.

HOTSEAT:
Sherlock hotseat with a few characters. Ss sit in front of the screen as other describe. Student has to guess who the person is.

DETECTIVE WORDSEARCH:
Use for Story Time, pg 186 as a pair work filler

MONSTER HOTSEAT:
Two kids sit in front of screen with white boards. Let them draw as their teammates describe. Compare monsters and choose a winner

SPEED GUESSING:
Describe a face on the screen. Fastest Ss to guess say the correct name gets rewarded.

This is always a fun topic! Hope the material is helpful as it has been for me.

Jigsaw Reading Game:

For this game, have students make groups of four. Cut up the reading paper into four sections and give one to each student in the group. There should be a student 1,2,3 and 4 in each group. First, each student in the group must read their sentence A. They must use those four sentences to decide which character's name to write in the "A" space on the printout (printout is in the PPT). By the end of the activity, they should have matched all six characters to a letter.

My coteacher and I demonstrated this activity with two other students using the characters Rachel Berry and V, at the beginning of the PPT. I've also included our "Jigsaw Reading example" paper if you want to demonstrate the activity first.

This activity didn't take my students a long time -- under 10 minutes -- so you might want to have another activity prepared in case they are fast!

First 2 files are a blindfold game.  Students had lots of fun.

Second 2 files are "Where's Waldo" but they are looking for random people instead of Waldo.  Descriptions provided with answers are used as guides.

Paparazzi Game
I played this game with my students and they loved it. It's like Sleeping Elephants (I took the template from another user....thanks).
Each member of the team has to remember his/her sentence. Then they have to put all the sentences together to try to figure out the correct celebrity.
On the celebrity cards, I used my princpal and VP.

Period 2 - Blind Fold Game. Had this for my 4th graders and adapted it to fit this chapter. It was pretty funny watching the results, but the kids loved it too. Good times.

Period 3 - Speaking/Action game.

Period 4 - Reading Race. Using the reading stories in the book. Students are in pairs and "battle" another pair. Each pair starts at opposing ends and takes turns reading a square. When they meet at the same square, they read it - battle with Rock, Paper, Scissors (RPS) and the loser goes back to start and switches with their partner. Winner continues forward.
The team to reach the opposite side first, wins. This really helps low level readers and makes it fair and competitive for higher level readers because of the element of luck.

~Cheers

Same as posted above but I added some animations. you can now describe a character and then click the character to make it disappear. if you click the wrong character. you can click the characters name and the picture will reappear. i imagine the game works the same but you dont have to print out the doc file and mark 'X's, now you can just play as a class and slowly eliminate characters until they pick the right one (the one that you pick)
