I adapted the Spongebob board game, as well as a memory game.

I added 4 new occupations (teacher, chef, musician, and professional gamer) for more variation, along with reasons that fit with the book's model (in the memory game).

*Note*  In the memory game, the balls at the bottom of the slide cross out matches from a previous use of the game.  I didn't bother moving them around to make sure they match this version because I don't use the balls.

Here are my materials for this chapter:
Per 1 - before beginning in the book, a quick vocab review of names of different jobs with good photos.  After the text, I have more practice, with "tools of the trade" pics of the equipent, materials, etc for various occupations.  Also has a Memory game with the "I want to help people/win the World Cup" expressions.  And a long list for playing Bingo.  REMOVED
Per 2 - An unscramble words and sentences warm-up on a new racecar theme I made.

"I want to be a ..." game:  Ss in a team read 1 clue each about a profession.  Other teams write their guess on a whiteboard.  Correct guesses earn a point, wrong guesses give a point to the team that read.  REMOVED  Also the usual fill-in for the Look and Say.
Per 3 -  a Who's Missing warm-up that's a bit tricky. REMOVED Odd Jobs ppt I found somewhere on waygook, with just a touch of added conversation at the end.  To go with the song, a pair of games involving paper strips made from the lines of the song.  My CT's idea.
Per 4 - My kids love a rebus.  They're really hard and time consuming to make, so I only made one round.  This is the starter.  I also have quiz/bomb game.
Per 5 -  A writing activity.  Each student will write six sets of sentences along the lines "My name is Cindy. I want to be a pilot. I want to fly into the sky." based on the prompts.  REMOVED
Per 6 - a challenging crossword puzzle, but it does include a word bank.
Somewhere in there, wee'll review this song Ss are already familiar with: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-Y0z3A6pzw
ALL REMOVED

"Look and Say" fill in the blank listening exercise for period 2.
Word box provided on the bottom of the page for lower level kids who have trouble with spelling.
Two copies per page to save trees :)

This is an anagram I found from waygook a few years back for my old grade 6 textbook but it works well here.  For those who have lower level students, this one isn't too difficult.

My materials for period 3:

I modified Mr C's intro. PPT to make a review PPT to use at the beginning of the period.

I also modified a board game from another thread to match this chapter (I put in pictures from the textbook, and added a few more). In groups of 3-5, students take turns rolling a dice to move through the board.

For this game, I told them if they rolled 1-move 1 space, 2 or 4- 2 spaces, 3- 3 spaces, 5 or 6- don't move. This combined with the other rules made it difficult for them to make it to the finish.  You can make it easier of course by letting them go 4, 5 and 6 spaces. Depends on how much time you have.

I modified a Pokemon Telepathy game for the writing section. I have the students use their notebooks and choose one word to write. You could also use whiteboards and make it a team game. Thanks to the original creator.

Thanks so the original poster and also there is a speed line game for Period 2 - students start at oppoaite end s and meet in the middle RSP loser goes back to their end. I aut taped the first 2 rows and the last 2 rows on the 2nd ppt slide.

Here is a job application activity that I did for period 6, the project lesson. I deleted my info. and the picture I had of me on the person. I got the application template off another thread on waygook, so thanks to the original creator.

I also edited an intro PPT from another thread. Thanks to the original creator!

So with the intro Who is it PPT, the mind map in the textbook, the job application activity, and the class job survey at the end of class, it was easily 40 minutes. In fact, we didn't have time for the students to walk around and ask their classmates what they want to be. My co-teacher just called on the students one by one and wrote the jobs they said on the board. Then had the students fill in the survey form in their textbooks.

Period 2 - Pirate of the Classroom speaking game adjusted for this book and chapter.

Period 4 - Reading Charades. Students play in teams. One student from a team comes up and looks at the computer screen on the Teacher's desk. Has 10-15 sec to act out what they see. If the team doesn't get it, another player from a different team has a chance. I have a big class, so this was the best way I could come up with so that all the teams had a chance at guessing. Please adapt it to fit your needs.

Sentence Bets. Good for either period 4 or 5. Student can either play in teams or play as individuals. I played it with teams. If individuals, make a worksheet students can bet, mark X/O and fix the sentence if X.

Thanks to all the original creators. ^_^

~Cheers

A spot it game. There are many ways to play. Look on the web for some rules and instructions. I like to have the kids in groups with two cards face up on the desk. The first student to call out the word the two cards have in common wins the first card and 1 point. The second card becomes the first and another card is put on the table.

Simple but fun card game you can play which requires no prep. use the cards on page 249.

get the students into groups of 3-5 students. they should take the cards out from their books, and put all the picture cards (pink cards) into one pile and all the sentence cards (green cards) into another pile in the centre of the group.

first student turns over the top card from the first pile, and says the expression. they then turn over the top card from the second pile, and say the expression. if the two cards match up, they keep the cards and get 2 points (1 for each card). if they don't match, the cards go back in the deck.

EXAMPLE: Student 1 goes first. turns over the top card from pile 1. it's a fire fighter card. so they say "i want to be a fire fighter." they turn over the top card from pile 2. they say "i want to meet my favorite star". the cards don't match, so they go back in the deck and get no points.

Student 2 goes next. turns over the top card from pile 1. it's a 'painter' card. they say "i want to be a painter". turn over the top card from pile 2. it's the card that says 'i want to paint great pictures', so the student says that expression. the cards match, so they keep the cards and get 2 points!

hope that's clear.

I always find period 3 absolutely painful, so here's a way to use the Hello, Words section:

Students work in groups
Number each picture in the Hello, Words section 1-6
Each group gets one die

So, one at a time students roll the die and say the phrases corresponding to the number.  E.g. if they roll a one, they say "I want to be a pilot, I want to fly into the sky." Then they put a checkmark on that square.
Next student in the circle rolls, and so on.  Goal is to be the first person to have rolled a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.  Can go for awhile so it's best I think to just set a time limit.
