6th graders don't like doing StoryTime role-plays unfortunately... Mine at least. But my 3rd and 4th graders love it! When I need to do StoryTime with my 6th graders, I do it the same way I do it with 3rd and 4th grade... with one key exception. I tell them that they don't have to do a role-play, but instead must do a writing activity (basically changing the storytime story and writing it in their notebooks). Once given the choice between role-play and writing... my students always choose role-plays. lol
Basic timeline:
1. Listen to the story
2. Repeat the story
3. Disappearing Dialogue (to help with memorizing the script)
4. Presentation Order (to avoid the "I want to go last" debate)
5. Practice / Writing (in their groups / individually quietly)
6. Role-Play / Writing
