Here are some reading activities I did for this lesson:
1) Hidden Points - As a group, students read the sentences to reveal points.
2) Worksheet - A. Match the advice with the symptom; B. Word search where the students must first unscramble the words.
3) Charades - One group member stands with their back to the TV while the other members act out the sentence on the screen. (instructions are in Korean on the PPT)

The two PPTs I got from another thread and edited to fit our specific wording. Credit to the makers.

Here's a Hot Seat game for this lesson, but I changed it to no speaking and only acting.

Instructions: Students divide into teams and one team goes at a time. A student from a team comes to the front and faces the class (but cannot see the screen/TV/ppt). Their team tries to get the selected student to guess the vocab word on the ppt without saying the word. When the student gets the word right (or if they pass) the next student quickly takes their place. For each correct guess, the team gets a point. I let each team play for 1 or 2 minutes. Then let the next team try.

Another game for this lesson. Unscrambling vocab words. I'm having my students work in pairs and with white boards. First group to raise their white board with the correct word gets a point. The game play can be changed. Basically they just work on spelling. My fifth grade loooooved this game so hoping the sixth grade does too.

Rock, Paper, Scissors Bingo
Print on A4, laminate. Cut in half - one board per student.

How to Play:
Play rock, paper, scissors. Winner chooses a block, reads & crosses it off. Repeat. The first person to get 4 rows (any direction) is the winner.

I used this game in the Talk Together lesson. I taught them extra expressions (I have an earache/runny nose/broken arm...) so that they would be familiar with them when they played the game. I included the extra expressions so that I could use the game at multiple schools where the textbooks are different.

It's pretty simple, but the students played quite enthusiastically so I guess the game went down well.

The concept isn't my own so credit to whoever came up with the idea first!

Personally, I hate teaching reading lessons. But this time round I decided the solution would be to play games.

1.Hidden points - posted by stephdmr earlier in this lesson. After playing, I kept the score board up and told them it would be used for the other games in the lesson. I did this at the start of the lesson as a kind of warmer - they love the idea that they are playing a game at the start and not end of the lesson.

2. Time bomb reading - I added the 5 points to the points that were already on the score board. After the bomb went off the team that lost points would start reading from the beginning again. It's hard to monitor if the whole team is reading - I guess you could be very strict on that. The students had fun - trying to read fast/slow depending on when they thought the bomb would go off.
I have no idea who came up with the concept/ who is the original creator of the template but thanks!

3. English drop (from a template, thanks to the creator!) Explanation is in the ppt. It's good to use in the writing lesson too. Once time is up I ask the students to hold up their boards and if its correct (spelling/punctuation) then I give them a point. My coteacher helps me to check their boards. You could do it without the timer and the fastest team will get points. I like every team to have the opportunity to win points.

I had a pretty good class so I'll post my activity - World War Z. This is a game that we kept playing. The class is small - 4 students, so I'm not sure how well it would work with bigger classes. If you saw the movie, the world is in a zombie apocalypse and the only way to survive is to have an illness, which stops the zombie from killing you. To play, one student is the zombie and stands in the middle. The class stands in a circle (they took refuge later after playing it several times). As the zombie moves to kill someone the victim has to say "I have a headache/ stomachache..." before the zombie touches. If too late, the victim becomes a zombie. Otherwise the zombie has to move on. We made the rule that you have to keep changing the illness to be immune.
