Here's an intro ppt and worksheet that I used. The intro ppt was made up using a lot from another book's ppts so thanks to whoever created them! The worksheet is basically so the kids can practice writing and spelling so as I introduce the new word I have them write it five times and then the back is a fill in the blank.

A simple UNO game to practice saying the dates. Every time they put down a card they have to say the date.

Here's some stuff for lesson 4, as always be sure to check this post every now & again as I'll be editing it if/when I make more ppt's for the later parts of the lesson.

Slap game: Divide the class into two teams, 2 students come up to the front and have their back facing the TV screen with fly swatters. Everyone asks me "What's the date today?" I answer "It's ____." Both students then turn around & the first person to slap the correct date on the TV using the fly swatter gets a point for their team. (Ideal for the first or second period)

Pass the Bomb game: A slight twist on the usual pass the ball/pencil case game. Pretty straight forward. (Ideal for the first or second period)

What's Behind ??? game: Very similar to the elimination game if you've ever played it. Students take turns reading one of the boxes on the PPT, teacher clicks it to remove it. If a candy is revealed then they get a treat or point or whatever. 14 rounds, 1 winner per round. (Ideal for the fourth period)

Blazing Pens game: Is there anyone who doesn't know how to play blazing pens??? LOL (Ideal for the fifth period)

When you click on the numbers on the homescreen and go to the question, should the number still be there when you back to the home page?

I am not Ben1981, but I think I can answer the question. The colors on the numbers change after the question has been used, it doesn't disappear like normal bomb games. I also have an old Jeopardy game that does the same thing. So, it shouldn't be a problem to play this game.

As kind of an icebreaker for this lesson, I am going to play a game. Let's call it, Silent Birthday.

Basically, the students have to line up in a row in order of their birthdays from January to December. But, they can't say anything to each other! They can only communicate with gestures.

Once they are sorted out, you ask them, "What is your birthday?" and go down the line and they say when their birthdays are.

One can add various elements to this game, like having them do it in a set amount of time, or having them compete with the other classes in the school and later give the winning class a prize.

I am going to have them do it and take as much time as they need. If they are perfect, I will give them a prize. If they are not, no prize.

I haven't done this in Korea yet, but I did when I taught in Japan and it was successful, and not too easy. I did have classes that weren't perfect! I think it can take 5 to 10 minutes depending of the class of course.

Here are two great songs for this lesson.
The months song by Susan Salidor is an absolute win. The students love it and it really helps them to remember the months of the year. The storybots video is less for learning the months and more for enjoyment. The graphics are great!

Update
I have updated the worksheet because there were a few mistakes on it...one was I used the word "girl" twice for vocabulary (I don't like using the same words). Please use the new attachment (new calendar girl song) for the changes. Thanks!

I make a worksheet for the song "Calendar Girl" I remember being in dance class when I was the students age dancing to this song!

I just made the worksheet today (late Friday afternoon) so it isn't the best, but I did check it and there are no mistakes that I could see. You are more than welcome to change it in any way you like.

The video for the song is here. However, my co-teacher found it a bit too sexy. I don't think the girls in this video dress any different than K idol groups, I mean it was ok for 1960s TV! But I am not showing this version in class.

I found another version, but some students might have a hard time catching the word because it is in penmanship. However, I plan on pausing after each word, and later having them write the answers on the board, so I don't think this will be too big of a problem.

BINGO ppt writing game.

Works like a lotto game. Students write down 16 given words, choose a ball and it will reveal the answer/word. Print out a 4x4 bingo table/have them draw one

annataleen - the silent birthday is good, but surely getting them to ask the actual question is much better? It seems like you are missing out on a bunch of opportunities for language learning by forcing them not to speak. I did the same activity but let them ask each other using only English.

Yes, that is a good point and I thought about that myself. However, I kept it silent for a couple of reasons. One is my school is large and the classes have a lot of students. If I have all of the sixth graders talking at one time it would get really loud and other conversations would start...I wanted to avoid that.

Another reason is, for my class it was more of an icebreaker activity to introduce the unit.
I hadn't gone over the vocabulary with them or anything yet. It was just something we did that at the beginning of class. The point of it was to see if they can get in order of their birth date without using words, so it was kind of more of a team building activity than an English activity, if that makes any sense? The English part was when we were checking the order when they had to say their birthdays.

However, under different circumstances I would do it the way you suggested. It is a great way for them to speak English to each other!

Reading Game with the book's sentence cards: Birthday War

This game is based off of the old card game, "War." After making groups of 2-4 students, students rip out 8 sentence cards in the back of the book. They shuffle the cards and and say together, "When is your birthday?" When they finish saying "birthday" each student flips over a sentence card(at the same time) and reads their sentence. The student with they earliest date on their card wins all of the other cards played. Shuffle and repeat. The student with the most cards at the end wins.

Notes: I have an idea to make two winners; the students with the most cards, and least cards. It might keep unlucky students from feeling discouraged.

In the chance that two students play the same earliest card, have those two students play another round against each other. The winner of the second round will win the cards from the first and second round.
