Some games, stolen from across waygook and modified. Please note that slide 8 of the Doraemon game will need to be changed as it pertains solely to me. Also on the Doraemon game, after each power up the letters all reappear so you will need to keep track throughout the game.

I have, in the games, made references to some of what was learned in Lesson 11 "who drew this picture?". E.g. What do you know about Leonardo Da Vinci? He painted the Mona Lisa.

Listening game for P1:
Either give each student a half sheet of slide one or project slide two and have them write in their notebooks.

I have a secret password that they need to try to guess. Slide 3 gives the passwords I will use and I recommend them just because not all the Korean characters are an option. For example, my first password is Mona Lisa. To get them to figure out that the first letter is ㅁ, I will say "Do you know anything about hangwa? I have no idea." and they will see this corresponds to the letter ㅁ and write it on their paper. Then, "Do you know anything about camel libraries? I have no idea." will indicate ㅗ is the next letter. Now they have 모. This continues and if they think they know what it is they can raise their hand and guess. But I only allow one guess per student per round otherwise they start guessing with the first letter and it holds up the game. If I call on them and they get it correct they get a reward and we move on to the next password.

I used this dice game for period 1 to keep things simple and repeat the vocabulary. It's a pair speaking activity. I used the black and white game pieces from the Korean game Baduk as markers (each player needs 6). One dice per two students and print out last slide. Worked well for me. My students are low level.

Hi
Is 'I have no idea' really a correct sounding response to
1) Do you know anything about guide dogs?  (I have no idea)
2) Do you know anything about Jack? (I have no idea)
3) Do you know anything about hangwa?

I want to answer 'No, I don't' or at least 'No' before adding 'I have no idea' (and it still doesn't sound quite right).

'I have no idea' sounds fine in response to questions like:
1) What's this?
2) Who is she?
3) Do you know what/who/where this is?

I've looked online but can't find anything to help me.

Is it because I am from New Zealand that it sounds slightly off?  Is it a good response and common in America?

I just find it hard teaching students something that sounds wrong.

Thanks for some clarification

You must be new here... Welcome...

Our books are littered with phrases and sentences that range between very off to just a little  weird. We've got to deal with it, basically I think of it as the most simple way to communicate ideas in English. I think this is their strategy, coupled with very basic principles of grammar, which aren't always adhered to.

So when you look at it like this, it starts to make sense and when you hear Koreans talking to you in very blunt or weird ways (in English) it makes sense why they say these things and that they probably don't mean to be insincere when they say something like: "Cheer up" when you inform them that your family has just been killed in an earthquake.  :azn:

I hate this lesson.

Edit: Forgive the typo on the 2nd sentence. There should be a full stop instead of a comma: "Yes, I do. It's a..."

Detective Game: (Listening and Speaking) (10-15minutes)

Game can be played multiple times.

- Groups of 4.
-Each group gets a set of 8 cards and each person gets a check list.
-The group shuffles the cards and deals 2 cards to each person.
- One person has the "MURDERER" card.

Students take turns trying to figure out who is the murderer.
They ask a person in the group "Do you know anything about _____"
If the person has the card they say "Yes I do"
If the don't have the card they say "No I don't".
The person asking then ticks off the name of the person and it is then the next persons turn.

P.S SORRY SORRY BUT I LEFT 'CAMEL LIBRARIES' OFF THE CHECK LIST - PLEASE REMEMBER TO ADD IT.

I hate this lesson.

How do you play?

I played that each group/table/team rolls the dice to advance down the field.
Team 1 rolls 6 first round--read #6
Team 1 rolls 3 second round--6+3=9, read #9.
Until one team rolls 13 (or final number) EXACTLY.
If they roll over 13, then they stay at the same number as before and must read that number again.

Sorry I forgot to write my instructions, I was just so consumed with 'meh' for this lesson.

Here's how I play:
- I give each student a handout, they play in pairs
- They put the sheets bottom to bottom, making a soccer field. Use erasers as their counters.
- Rock Scissor Paper to move towards one of the goals (the students decide who's playing what direction).
- When they move onto a new line, they must read it out aloud. Then RSP again to see who moves next. Repeat.
- Goals are scored once they reach the end of the sheet. Note the winners name in the Box and play round 2 ... etc...

Happy Friday  ;D

Powerpoint to introduce the expressions and review new vocabulary for period 2 and a similar ppt for period 3 to review but with a warm up video about sky diving simulators and a few different things they might know and be able to explain in their own words.

Polyascko - a really nice ppt - thanks.

If the textbook had put the 'No' in front of 'I have no idea' it would be much better.  Thank you.

I really don't like teaching students something that is wrong as it is very hard to unlearn something that has been learnt wrong.  As far as I am concerned the way the textbook uses the phrase 'I have no idea' is wrong and I will be telling the students that.

********
Here is  my ppt showing some instances where 'I have no idea' can be used without the 'no'.  I am using it as a warm up for period 2 and 3.

Here is a game I made. It's called Sleeping Minions it's exactly the same as Sleeping Elephants only with minions.

I also hate this lesson, so I asked my students about their interests and incorporated them into the vocabulary: Do you know anything about Attack on Titan / League of Legends / BTS?

Who needs to know about camel libraries and smart mirrors - so useless!!!!

Anyway of course you can change the sentences used in the game...

Speaking game for p2:

Print out a half sheet for each student and fold the bottom so the three pictures are covered. Then they have to walk around and play RPS with others. The winner asks "Do you know anything about (hangwa)?" and if that student has the hangwa picture at the bottom of their paper they respond "Yes, I do" and the winner/asker gets to write the other student's name in a square with hangwa on their paper. First student to finish all with different students' names in each or most completed when time is up wins.

Family Feud Game, Just for Fun (edited template)

Split the class up into 3 teams

Students try to come up with the top 5 answers. I've simplified the scoring system and will just use the board. Not Slide 2. Answer 1 gets 5 points, Answer 2 gets 4 points, etc.

If they get 3 X's there turn is over. Also, I'll be strict on the Korean. If they say in Korean (something they know in English), I'll give them an X.

Please, edit and move it about however you want. These lesson is ridiculous with it's nouns, so I tried to include some common things for students. You'll need to print out the answer sheet for yourself and then ask "Do you know anything about...?"

Have fun^^
