Lesson 8-2

Also, added Disappearing Dialogue retroactively.

Lesson 8-5

Cut and paste BINGO to practice listening in period 1.

Includes all the key sentences in different variations and characters from spongebob, adventure time, naruto, and LOL.

I also added extra sentences, like "May I ask who's calling?" which is much more commonly used where I live.

Includes pictures for LL, and the sentences for reading.
PDF format to keep the font intact. ^^

I didn't make the original, but this worked well in phone lessons last year.  I updated it to use the key terms in this particular chapter.

edit- I noticed a couple formatting errors so I fixed them.

I made this game for review and it concentrates on reading.

Each student gets 3 sentences.
They go around the room and read 1 sentence to a classmate, the classmate does the same.
They play rock, paper, scissors.
The winner gets the loser's sentence.
Move on to the next classmate.
Keep going until the 3 minutes are up.
When time's up, show the lucky sentence.
Students who have the lucky sentence get the points shown for their group. Only one student per group. That is to say if two students have the lucky sentence, the group only get points for one student.
Move on to the next round.

Motivational video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTc3PsW5ghQ&index=13&list=PLbLq5UL6LUI0CiLxpPTLMBszNKxOIU1Fc

this was a big hit with my sixth graders...more so then the animal phones...and it's sesame street ROFL.

For my reading period I'm going to do a reading race.  basically:
PREP:
1) print out 10-12 peices of paper with variations of the target sentences. (I use LOL characters and naruto, etc...they love it)
2) Tape to back wall in a way that they have to lift up the paper to read, from left to right across the wall.

Game:
1) split into two teams. have them form a line on opposite sides of the room (on team at each end of the sentences)
2) First student in line start from opposite ends, lift up paper, read, move to next paper.
3)  When they meet, they R, P, Scissors.  Winner keeps going. Loser goes to back of the line and next person starts.
4) Each time a person gets all the way across, their team gets a point.

(note....noisiness may ensue. )

Another game you can play for reading....Flip cup!  This is a HUGE hit with my kiddos.
I usually split the class into 3 teams.
Prep:  make enough notecards with target sentences for every student, and then some.
Have enough paper cups. the little dixie ones work great.

game: put cards (facedown) and cups in front of students.  Starting from the first student, they read the sentence (or word) and then have to flip the cup. Once the cup is flipped, the next Student goes.

To say my students love that game is an understatement.

happy reading!

I made this Telepathy style Stand Up Sit Down game. Good for Reading + Writing. The kids really liked it. Instructions are on the PPT. I also got them to read their chosen sentence aloud. It takes about 10-15 minutes but you can always add more rounds if you want.  Pretty simple, but fun. :)

We listened to Stevie Wonders's I just called to say I love you and filled in the worksheet. We also talked a bit about the lyrics and sang the song together in the end. You can find the song with lyrics on youtube.

When I opened and ran the game both stand up/sit down posted as losers.......is that how it's supposed to be? According to the directions it's not. I guess I'll go through it and change the one that doesn't drop to winners. But if I'm wrong could you explain the game again? I thought it was a random ha-ha joke for the beginning but they all say loser. :/

I used the Pirates of the Classroom Game Template (thanks to whoever made this). Have the students read the left side first and then the right to form two sentences and choose a space. I printed the sentences and taped it on the board for reference. Have fun~

Song Listening Activity Hello

Listening Activity of Adele's Song. There is a version with Korean subs on youtube. Play thie video while the ss fill in the words. I usually do this as a motivation at the beginning of the 6th period when students already know the target language fairly well.

Telephone Game

Ss play in groups and pretend to call the characters. Give points to the teams according to the amount of stars. This is a good one to use at the beginning to get ss motivated.

Grab Game

Ss play in groups of 3/4. Round one  - Images. Ss listen and grab the right card as T calls it out. Round 2- the same as round one, just words. This is a good motivator and reinforces the target vocabulary.

Sentences Game

I changed someone else's game, thanks for the original. Each student gets the same amount of sentence strips, they are given randomly. Ss then get maybe 5-10 minutes to walk around and play rock-scissors-paper to win other ss' strips. The winner may get one strip at a time and should then proceed to another student. The winner may choose which strip to take as the strips have different numbers. At the end, the s with the highest total number, is the winner. Give the class about 10 minutes to play. This is a nice reading review at the end of the lesson.

Kakao Activity

This is to replace the creative activity for the 5th period. Write the standard dialogue from the textbook on the chalkboard and let ss write it, but fill in the details for themselves. Lower level ss really enjoyed this, bc they were able to do it and they enjoyed choosing a cartoon character. I used this for 5th grade, not yet for 6th, but I'm sure they will like it too. You can then take finished work home, mark them and so the ss can learn from their mistakes :)

Drawing relay!

-Students put their heads down and close their eyes.
-Student #1 in each team looks at the picture on the screen.
-Student #1, draw this picture in 10 seconds.
-When the alarm goes off, Student #1 stop drawing. Wake up Student #2 and show them your picture.
-Student #2 try to draw Student #1's picture.
-Continue til you reach the 4th/last student.
-This student must look at Student #3's picture and write a sentence guessing who it is. (Is ___ there?)
-If they're right, get some points. If they're wrong, giggle at each other's terrible pictures~

NOTE: In the ppt's instructions, I used my own picture for my class. For Waygook, I replaced it with clip art, but you can either change it to your own.
