Lesson 9-1
Introduction lesson covering Key Words and Expressions in both English and Korean. Ppt and worksheet.

Lesson 9-2
Disappearing dialogue for memorization practice. (from Look & Say)

Lesson 9-3
Worksheets for reviewing comparatives. I copied Worksheet 1 so it was a double-sided half sheet. (The actual file isn't formatted this way, I did it manually because I was running short of time.)

Lesson 9-5
Adjective Olympics. Ppt with various categories for a comparatives competition.  I made a worksheet to go along with it so students can write down the results using comparatives (either "A is Xer than B." or "A's ___ is Xer than B's."). I had each of my groups (I have 5 groups of 4 students each in my class) compete within their group, and then the winner from each group came to the front of the class and competed against each other. I gave a point to whoever the winning team was for each category. I took the ppt from an older book thread, so thanks to the original poster.

Lesson 9-6
Minecraft Review Game (F is broken. It resets the game, and I'm too lazy to fix it >.<)

To make it fun, I'm going to play part of Kanye West's song Stronger with several comparatives in it (if you just listen to the first part you can cut it off before anything is inappropriate).
I will give each student a worksheet and go through the meanings of each word. Then they will circle the words they hear in the song. If they are having trouble the 2nd or 3rd time, I'm going to show the video that has lyrics and let them see the word/check their answers.

Thanks for the 9-1 intro powerpoint. I added some gifs and a few more expressions so I thought I'd put it on here.

Here is a game for reviewing the lesson and practicing comparatives! I used Envies' great Happy Bunnies game template, from this thread :) http://www.waygook.org/index.php/topic,88946.0.html

Question categories:
Fill in the blanks (based on picture prompts)
Make a sentence (a bit more creative)
Guess (students have to make a guess about which object, A or B, is more _____ )
Spelling
Translate (Korean -> English)
Find the Mistake(s) (I had students correct and write the sentence down on the board)
"Don't Panic"

Thanks for the intro ppt, I changed some things around because I've noticed a huge increase in understanding and retention when I format it this way...They start to really link words with the sentences.

Also here is a minecraft board speaking game!  The first two slides are fifth grade lesson 9, but the second 2 are 6th grade lesson 9 ^^   Just print out and laminate (so it doesn't get destroyed :) )

Here's a Superhero/Avengers PowerPoint for a Team Writing Race.
I used it for 6-9-3 (Reading/Writing) and the students really liked it.

-SS are put in groups (of about 4)
-Teams will be given a sheet of paper & told to number 1-10
-A picture will come up on the board (like a tall superhero next to a short superhero with the tall superhero circled and the phrase “Captain America is t_____ ____ Black Widow.”
-Teams should guess “taller than,” and the writer will write the whole sentence correctly in the space for #1. (The writer will switch with each new slide.)
-The student/group to raise their hand (with the paper) first AND write the sentence correctly gets a point.

So I made a Simpsons "What's behind?" reading game (fairly simple. team chooses sentence and reads it, I click and it reveals the points, from 1 to 10.  Where the points are change with every slide....it's simple and the students like it...Oh the cheers when they get a 9 or 10 LOL)
feel free to delete points from a slide and add "Switch points" or " steal __ points" to make the game even more fun ^^

I also attached a crapload from last year.  Telepathy was a huge hit today (They write what they think my "opinion" is....example "rollercoasters are more fun then water parks")  They get a point for every correct answer.
The mini olympics is also a huge hit because they don't know what will be the question....it makes it totally random. they love it!

Also, big video hit, I used for period 1:

Adam Thomas has "I'm stronger than you" part 1, 2, and 3 that they think is halarious too, and he has sub and no subs.

Sorry to be putting out a request here, rather than an upload, but does anyone have any idea on how to inject some life into the Roleplay sections? The 4th grade counterparts are good, but the 5th and 6th grade ones tend to be threadbare and of little interest to the students.

The catch is, I've got one co-teacher who likes to follow the book rather closely. I was looking at using this particular one as a springboard into a Comparatives Olympics type activity, but that has been vetoed too.

* * *

Edit: Ran a simple Typhoon Quiz game with Class A (first day back from Chuseok, so something low prep and fun seemed appropriate), and managed to convince Class B to just do the same thing. The roleplay comment still stands though as this will likely come up again. As for the quiz, it's uploaded below, with bits and bobs harvested from previous uploaded games and polished up.

There are five question types including two special question types:

Whiteboard Questions: These ask questions related to subjective opinion. All groups discuss the question, write a full sentence answer on their whiteboards. The selected group then holds their board up and answers aloud together. On the count of three the other groups flip their boards to determine the "correct" answer. Majority rules.

Student Challenges: Pick two students from the class (not from the selected group) and introduce the question. Then flip on the timer. After the selected group answers aloud, pull the two students to the front to discover the correct answer. If your students are liable to "throw" the strength match, just offer a bonus point (ie: a tie-breaker point) or something for the winner.

Just edit to fit this lesson! :D

I made the Listen & Play a couple of years ago, for my school's old textbook.  My computer died on me since then. I lost all of my files, and I had completely forgotten about it. Thanks for re-uploading for this lesson!   ;D

Forever rushing, so it’s not 100% complete but the idea is there. Listening Activity.

Pictures taken from powerpoints last year, and game idea is stolen from someone on here. I just combined the two and made a ppt as my kids go nuts over any game where they are slamming things!

Place 1 piece of red, and 1 piece of blue card/paper/object between each student pair. Say a sentence, for example "The elephant is bigger than the car". students should slam either the red card ("I think so too - O") or the blue card ("I don't think so - X"). The student who slams the correct color first gets a point. They got clever and just started guessing and slamming as soon as I finished saying the sentence so I made it that if they just slammed down as a guess and they were wrong then they lost a point.

Have fun!

Lesson 9-6
Minecraft Review Game (F is broken. It resets the game, and I'm too lazy to fix it >.<)

Ascheer, I edited your intro PPT per my co-teacher's request. Thank you for getting these up every lesson! I added some pics and GIFs to the new words slides to help keep the attention of the more advanced students. I added practice slides at the end too, for making new sentences out of the key expressions.

Also, here is a revised PPT explaining the different rules on how to change the adjectives for comparative sentences. We explained the rules with the PPT (which takes a while, but really helped the students' understanding!) and then had them complete the worksheet.

****EDIT: Worksheet and PPT with the answers are in my next post.

We explained the rules with the PPT (which takes a while, but really helped the students' understanding!) and then had them complete the worksheet. Unfortunately I don't have the HWP version of the worksheet, but I'll scan in a photo of it.

Here is the worksheet that we used, and a short PPT to show the answers. We had the students fill in as much as they could remember first, and then we checked the answers with the PPT.

My co-teacher found this activity on another site. Different group activity that worked well for us.

1. Print out the 4 maps and place them around the room. (we laminated to use for four classes).

2. Put students into 4 groups. Our numbers meant 4 or 5 per group (If 5 students two students have the same sheet). Print out the worksheets and give each group a set.

3. Students had 6 minutes at each station to solve the problems. After the first station they had it sorted. They need to read the clues and make an equation like A>D>E>C. They were very good at it and had fun doing something different.

Two games we used in this lesson. The olympics takes 30 to 40 minutes and it requires you to prepare some props beforehand. Very fun though!
