Hey All :-)

Ascheer, thanks so much for always getting the ball rolling with the lessons. Much appreciated. My students have been demanding level crazy. Haha! I have adjusted accordingly.

I used the following materials for this lesson.
P1:  I adapted Ascheer's PPT slightly in that I added my intro. I come from South Africa so I started by asking the students, "Do you know about South Africa?" I was, of course, appalled when some said no but their classmates came to their rescue and reminded them that I am from SA. I played our national anthem and then proceeded to break down some info as on the PPT. The students thought it was amazing/wonderful.  ;D
We played line bingo as per the book. Students had to save their cards for part 2.

P2: We played the game as per the textbook but used dice. If 1 3 5 was rolled then 1 space could be moved and 2 4 6 then 2 spaces could be moved.

P4: We played the sentence game which is attached. Instructions are on the PPT. Ever thankful to the OP for this.

P5: Our students are too cool for 'Act Out' so we played this wrap around game. Instructions are in the attachment. I got this off another thread. Thanks OP.
My students absolutely LOVED this game and requested to play it again. My co-teacher, as per usual, underestimated the students but they showed her a thing or 2. PROUD of them.

Here is two Goldilocks stories, we did some extra stuff so the questions might not be spot on the chapter.  Plus a 'Do you know about' PowerPoint.

Here's my take on the chapter. I think it's a bit heavy on the material, so the current plan is to cover the definitions ("It's a traditional Korean etc etc"), then the opinions ("I think it's etc etc") and tie it all together at the end by playing Hot Seat/Mystery Heads.

Just be aware that I tried to smooth out the dialogue a bit in the PPT (ie: not having B lecture A about something they already know about) but its been designed to be easily customised. Feel free to share any remixed versions you might make here.

Edit: I polished the material up a little more prior to the class and have since reuploaded everything along with the additional material for the rest of the unit. Again, note the minor textbook deviations, and edit to your needs.

This is a game I came up with to play with the students. It includes vocabulary words from this chapter, as well as some review words from chapter 10.

Here's how the game works:

I have a ppt with scrambled vocabulary words. I then divided my class up into three teams, and made one person from each team come to the board to try to write the word correctly. The first person to write the word and squat (so I could see the answer) wins one point.

Serious question :
The title of the chapter implies that this chapter is about learning to express an opinion, but the contents imply its about asking and answering questions about traditional Korean culture.  Am I missing the expression of opinion in the chapter? Is anyone emphasizing that?

Also similar chapters that I thought were helpful:

Here is a quick ppt telepathy writing game based on some australian things. Students need to match 2 sentences per round. The format can be easily changed to your home country.

That's a very good point. I think what we've got here is a mop-up chapter. Giving opinions and giving basic descriptions of Korean/foreign cultural items are obviously both in the curriculum (as is using the preposition 'about') and this textbook has decided to bundle them all together in one overloaded chapter. The book expects students to be able to describe things and express opinions, but the writing section has them expressing opinions solely. As such, focussing on the missing half in additional activities makes sense. Just don't forget to tie it all together at the end with a big production activity or quiz game.

Given the book somewhat discourages variation in opinion though, I'm quite happy that it plays second fiddle to the rest.

I am never sure I'm doing this correctly... anyway I modified and used your PPT, thanks so much. I added a simple handout. This was a good way to practice writing and for them to hopefully get to know SA and me better.

Standard evolution game but I changed the 'Pyramid' to Namsan tower because if they lose rock-paper-scissors at the last level its more humorous imagery for them to be pushed off the top of the tower. Also I included instructions in case the students have never played before.

Complete lesson including lesson plan
Grade 6 Cheonjae 3 - I think it's beautiful 1 of 2

I've been using the fabulous resources on waygook all year.  I've also been writing lesson plans all year to give to my co-teachers.  So I'm basically just going to upload all my lessons in their entirety for anyone else to use.  I'm sorry, I haven't sourced all the games and slides that I have used.  Some of them I've made myself, of course.  A million thanks to all users who must have spent hours putting together PPT bomb games etc.

Some of my lessons have been hugely successful, others much less so.  Hey, we're working with kids - second-guessing them is a mine field, right?!  They seem particularly to enjoy games with cards or dice.  Running dictations and Sleeping Elephants always go down well.

I taught two classes per lesson so my posts will be labelled (lesson title) 1 of 2 and (lesson title) 2 of 2.  I haven't edited anything since I used it.  Some of my lessons were over-planned ie there was too much for one class, so they have been carried over to subsequent classes.  Generally things should be pretty clear.  Feel free to PM me if you need any help with anything - but I will only be on waygook until 18 September 2024 when my subscription expires.
