Here's a simple sparkle game to practice reading. My students keep asking for it.
All students stand up. I go down the rows and have them read 1 word at a time. The person will read SPARKLE and the person after them has to sit down and is out. Continue until 1 person is left standing. You can also do it if they get the word wrong, they sit out, but I've preferred to help my low students instead.

This time I adapted the PPT from previous classes, so there's a lot of bonus vocab slides in there for jobs former students wanted to learn about. The book stuff is all at the top though, so edit to your needs. Dialogues are all Kakao Friends themed. I figure there's no better embodiement of potential than mostly genderless emoticons. Buttons to activate word/sentence stress overlays are included as per usual plus an extra section tucked away at the end to help the students "discover" the relationship between '-er' jobs and verbs.

Edit: Added an extra slide for grammar. As those who've downloaded the file have probably already customised it to some extent, I've uploaded it as an single slide PPT. Just copy and paste it in.

So here is everything I've accumulated for this lesson so far. Worksheets I am still working on...I'm making them CHRISTMAS THEMED! :D well...to the best of my ability....

In one period I will use this as motivation:
http://www.adamthomasphotography.com/Other/Videos-with-Subtitles/i-GvsFF48/A

My students LOVEEEEE his videos.

*The only repeat is the Sparkle game. That one I got from here.
** My intro is a combo of Ascheer's and Paul's because my students like having the Korean visible and all the keywords,  but Paul's pictures are more interesting for them and also adds more jobs and practice at the end.

So...I'm posting this starting just with period one and doing more posts with the rest...too many files...the internet  revolted.

So here are some worksheets (in pdf to perserve the fonts...)
I'm working on one more for advanced students if they want a challenge...but I'll upload that one later!

first is a basic introduction worksheet with part of the page dedicated to "can you guess what this job is?" so advanced students have more to do.

second worksheet is three pages, use what you like. There are matching, guess the job, wordsearch, and even a page with korean to english for expansion (that's more for your eager learners!

I totally forgot!

I made this as a project worksheet last year.
went over really well! does take 25 to 30 minutes though!

basic worksheet I made based off two I saw that both weren't free printables.
They list their job, design their uniform and draw the tools they need for that job, etc. My students really enjoyed it and were very creative last year!

I instilled a point grading system ahead of time (spelling, creativity, etc.)  most scored very high. :)

Here's simple table so students can go around the room and ask their classmates what they want to be and write it in the chart.

Here is a game i reworked from 4th grade. The objective of the game is to find out who is the thief. You do this by following the clues and filling in the jobs of each person on the sheet. The remaining person without a job is the thief.

Ready to print and play.

Vocabulary on the board mostly follows the textbook:
  • a doctor - help sick people
  • a vet - help sick animals
  • an artist - draw pictures
  • a designer - design things
  • a scientist - study things
  • an engineer - make robots
  • a magician - make magic tricks

Especially for those kids who don't have an answer to "What do you want to be?" and also to assure them that if they change their minds in the years to come, they aren't useless to society. Korean subtitles didn't work on Chrome - some problem with the flash(?) add-on - but works fine in firefox.

A cute video I found on YouTube. Can be used as motivation or an extra lesson as the end.

Jazzed up the board game a bit, but still simple. Best printed in color if you can!

I built on an "interesting jobs" ppt that was floating around this site and made it into a guessing game.

Click the numbers 1-3 on the side to reveal more and more of the picture and job name. Students have to guess what the job is with "I want to be a/an ___."

Pokemon Kingdom!

I was inspired by the "Three Kingdoms" game.

It's similar to that game, but I made it like a board game. I also replaced kingdoms with Pokemon~  8)

-3-4 students get different colored paper squares and play rock, paper, scissors to see who goes first.
-Students read the sentence and put their colored paper on the Pokemon they want to "catch."
-When everyone has gone, they play RPS again for another order.
-If students want to steal someone's Pokemon, they roll a dice and the biggest number steals the Pokemon.
-Each time students play RPS, the 1st winner is safe for that round, so no one can steal any of their Pokemon.

Students wanted to take the game home after we played, so I'd say it was a hit~

Note: You will have to cut out a lot of small paper squares in 4 different colors.

Thanks for this! Made it less work for me by putting the sheets in those clear plastic sheet protector things (sturdier ones) and using dry erase markers. Each student chooses a shape to draw as their symbol and can easily erase and take over another student's space.  ^_^
