For those of you that teach the Communication Task, this is what I've been teaching this week.

Start off by reviewing L&S 1 and 2 to sure they know the grammar points. Then put them into groups. I've found groups of 4 have worked best.

The handout consists of a page of plans "I was planning to..." a page of problems "but..." and a worksheet on which they need to write the advice "I think you should...". Cut the PROBLEMS pages into cards and have the students match the plans with the problems. For example one of the plans is "I was planning to do my homework" so it's corresponding problem is "but I left my textbook at school". The students work together to think of 3 pieces of advice for the problem "I think you should call a friend" etc.

Make sure the Ss check with you that they've matched the problems and plans correctly for instance their first instinct is to pair "I was going to go to sleep early tonight" with "I'm so tired" which doesn't make sense.

There are 8 plans and problems so there is quite a bit of work for them to do. It usually takes up the entire 45 minutes but if your kids are faster you can use the back up activity where the Ss work independently to think of their own plan and problem and then have them mingle to find three pieces of advice from their classmates.

Hope it helps.

Grade 3 materials:

Here's a review PPT and Spongebob Bomb Review Game that I made to review chapters 1 and 2 of the book. There's a lot of Korean translations in the review PPT (that was all double checked by my coteacher), so hopefully that is helpful for your classes! Also, you'll probably want to change the name that's on the last slide to your own :-).

I'm posting this to the index since there isn't yet a "Combined Lessons / Reviews" link for Grade 3.

Since there is no section for reviews I will post here again. This is for Judy Yin Grade 3. This is a review game for units 4 and 5. I did not make the game template, so major props to Kyle Ludeke (Sprite06 ?).

You might want to change some of the pictures since some are of me and things my kids know I like. If you have used the Mr. Bean lesson then you will recognize where some of the questions come from as it was not in the book that way. Many are dialogs from the book which 2 students in the team should complete. There are blanks in the dialog to make them look in the book.

I've made a review for Units 3,4,5. It does not cover the entire units, so change accordingly.

It's formatted as a sort of scavenger hunt so that students must actually look through their books to find the answers.

My students are intermediate level and I think this should take about 35 minutes. I haven't used this yet, but a similar review sheet worked well for grade 1 middle students.

Pair students into partners and the first team to finish wins a prize. In my case, they get temporary tattoos.  8)

This is a review for Unit 1 and 2 as I only do the Speaking part at my school.

The school's third grade is split into basic and advanced. This game was a HIT!!! It took up the whole 45 minutes and the instructions took about 5 minutes but that is because the advanced class is very advanced.

I got the idea from a JustanElegy on the Elementary School forum and my ppt template is from elacossy.
