"I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" I posted an earler version of this under Grade 3 L14, but as it is appropriate for all ages, and we now have this thread here, I thought I would post it again for those who might have missed it. Children of all ages pick up on this rather quickly, seemingly without regard to their English ability. The PPT will play itself, but if you want to adjust the timings, feel free to do so: The internal clock varies, and it affects MS's images, so if you find the timing is off, either advance or retard a slide or two to get it back on track, or rhearse the timings by yourself and get your own rhythm going. The pictures and the lyrics are designed for easy comprehension.

Here is a mash-up of Jingle Bells and the "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" posted by siamagoo, set to music. It's a slide show, so it will click through automatically. Also Norah 2010's white christmas, reposted with music.

Here's Silver Bells again, in a different show, this time with Sinatra, Crosby and an unidentified female crooning. Before the song starts, which will autoplay, manually click through the "primer" which I use as a read in unison and then a round robin so the class gets a chance at reading practice. "Silver Bells" works perfectly as a pronunciation drill for some of the most difficult sounds Korean mouths have to produce when enunciating English. The associations of the pictures with the words here causes all but the most recalcitrant to have some comprehension without chasing their tails in Hangul. I like to follow this with a "sing it again" using the Doris Day version, posted earlier: Her diction is even clearer, and variety is the spice of life.
There's also a very short primer for "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" which practices open and close your eyes, wash your hands, and what you want for Christmas. The repetition seems extreme, but actually is instructive for 3rd and 4th graders , and the lively pics help make it palatable. (P.S. If you haven't yet checked out "Santa Claus is Coming to Town," Mrs. Costello breathes a lot of life into a song the children thought they knew before they heard her sing it.)

Justin Bieber Mistletoe lyrics activity

Its holiday season (Stateside), and thus here are lyrics to Justin Bieber's current Christmas song, "Mistletoe". I show the girls the video first, to get past the screaming, and then again, and they work with their partner to fill in the missing lyrics.

I discovered on Monday in my extra class that my kids didn't know what mistletoe was. I explained breifly, and my two third grade boys begged me to share with the rest of the class. So yesterday during my high level I did the word as a hangman game, then stumped them as to what it was. I explained, and used these cute little youtube videos to prove that I wasn't making it all up!
Then I followed it up with the Justin Bieber song - today I'll add the lyrics cloze worksheet - just some extra suggestions to help fill time if you want to make a lesson out of it!

Hey,
Here are a couple of Christmas Song PPT's. I also found some worksheets on the internet to go with them. They fill up the whole lessons.
There is "All I want for Christmas is You" and "White Christmas". My 3rd Grade middle school students found All I want for Christmas is You a bit too fast so maybe slow down the video when you play it.
I have had the Korean checked by co-teachers but you may want to get it checked too before using the PPT's.
These lessons may work with older elementary kids too.
