I teach at an all-boys middle school, and was trying to come up with a way to make a Halloween lesson that would be different from what they've had since elementary school and have the proper degree of horror/violence for that particular demographic. I decided to make a monster-fighting PPT, with quiz questions about how to defeat different Halloween icons. I plan to split the class into different groups and have them hold up whiteboards to answer each question. Any time a group gets a question wrong, I will erase an "X" on the board representing that group's stamina/health, like they've lost a fight to that monster in a video game. This is my first year teaching ESL in Korea, so I haven't actually tried it out yet, but thought I might throw this out there for anyone searching for some Halloween inspiration.
I've included Google Drive links for two PPTs (the file size was too large to upload, sorry if the formatting got screwed up): one with some words translated for my lower-level classes and one with no translations for my highest-level boys. Let me know what you think/if you have any additional ideas!
