Lexicon Quest
« on: December 05, 2016, 08:26:05 PM »
Well... I've been working on a secret project for about a year now, and I think it's almost ready to see the light of day. The only other project I have posted on here is the Minecraft game, which was well received and I am happy to have heard that teachers are finding it very helpful.

I was introduced to PowerPoint bomb games about five years ago and I immediately was attracted to them. I loved the style and the unique ideas that so many people posted on this site, especially the games from Kyle Ludeke, for example. I am extremely grateful to the community for the materials that have been posted here and am not ashamed to say that I have dove into threads looking for a last minute fix for a botched lesson plan. With that said, this is my gift back to the community.

LEXICON QUEST xXx LEXICON QUEST xXx LEXICON QUEST
I am releasing some screenshots from the game here for now, but I will post the actual PPT file before Friday this week, but keep in mind that they will be my beta testers (there might be some bugs still left in there).

Lexicon quest is a game that is meant to be played with the whole class as one team. The class should be divided into smaller groups, but will earn points all together. The points are their life bar, so if they run out of points they are done. The class moves progressively through three dungeons. They will choose a path through the dungeon, answer questions and fight monsters using English. When they are done, they get to keep all the points they earned in the dungeon.
Regular squares have the simple template from bomb games: question at the top, empty space for a picture, answer at the bottom. Correct answers earn points, wrong answers lose points. Through the three maps students can earn up to a maximum of 450,000 points. Scattered throughout the dungeon are monster battle squares. A multiple choice question will be asked at each step of the battle, answering correctly hurts the monster, whilst answering incorrectly will hurt the students.

Ultimately the students are searching for three different Lexicons (if you don't know what that is look it up ಠ_ಠ) and are competing with another class of the same grade level for points and or a reward.

I didn't do the artwork for most of the design, except for the logo and a few elements here and there. I borrowed a lot from free apps from various app stores and give credit to the artists. Just promoting artists by re-purposing their work.  8)

Did you forget to actually add the game?

I didn't forget to post the PPT file, I was working out some bugs last night to make the first two installments stand alone.

Here is a link to my Google Drive, since the files are too big to post here. (80 MB)

Wow. This looks like it was a crap tonne of work!
I'm always happy to find quality stuff that I can dismember, examine, reassemble, and learn from, so thanks much for leaving this here!

I may use this for one of my winter camps, and will let you know how it goes!

My pleasure! It was a crap-ton of work... about a year, but actually closer to two...

I updated the file to fix a spelling error (I don't English good. English major problems.)

As I am testing it with my kids I am noticing that the music is too low in some places and too loud in others... I will adjust that as well in future updates.

OK, I just went through the last part of the PPT and everything is ready for a full release. There may still be a few bugs hiding in there, but all the hyperlinks, sounds, volumes and animations are solid.

In the next few weeks (probably more likely in early January) I will get the fourth dungeon out to complete the game. The kids will get a little more plot and a super fun final battle with the evil King Godfrey III to cap off the series. I'll post the final version  when it's finished in a new thread.

For now, both the 5th grade game and the 6th grade game are stand alone and use-able from the download (my questions are based on the current Daekyo textbooks. I can change some of the target language to fit other textbooks as people request it, or you can edit it yourselves!

Thanks for following this far and happy teaching!

Here is the download link one more time: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0BwAQAeJTmTmMdThFZzdNVWtZOUU?usp=sharing
