Any ideas for a fun Christmas party game? - no tech
« on: December 09, 2016, 01:09:11 PM »
I've been tasked with coming up with a fun Christmas party game at my hagwon.

Here's the lowdown:

- 8 x 45 min classes, no breaks.
- class sizes from 2-16 students.
- ability range from 'fresh out of phonics' to 'near TOEFL ready'
- No tech in the class, just a whiteboard.
- does not actually have to do with Christmas in any way, although that would be a plus.

Any brilliant ideas?

You can play the slap game with Christmas words or play minute to win it games (tons on Youtube & Pinterest).

Pass the parcel. Takes a bit of prep for you but will be a blast. Wrap each layer with newspaper and put a letter on each layer. Students pass the parcel and if they are holding it when the music stops (maybe you can use your phone) they have to say a word with the letter to open a layer. You can put candy or small prizes every 3rd or so layer and a nice prize in the middle.

I played this in my winter camp and my students loved it. I used this as a reading activity and put vocab words on each layer, but I plan to use the letters in my next camp because my levels will be more mixed this year.

You could make a few variations though. Good luck!

Works well with just a massive ball of plastic wrap / cellophane, where the kids have to pick and pull at the ball to get to the various prizes. Another great one that goes down well with our kids is musical statues but hey have to do the actions you call out until you say "freeze". Hope it's fun! :)

Get some floor tape (electrician's tape) and make a 3x3 grid in your classroom. Place a flashcard in each sqaure and have 2 teams play tic-tac-toe / 3 in a row against eachother. Use beanbags or something to mark off each sqaure. Once they've played with 4 counters/markers a few times, play with three  and allow them to move the markers. The kids will get super competitive! Just switch around the flashcards to chnage their thinking.
