ALL POP Challenge (30 songs)
« on: December 11, 2016, 03:31:49 AM »
The resources on this site have really helped me with my first year of teaching, so I decided to share my own contribution :)

It's slightly different from the K-pop vs. A-pop quiz. Students choose a "channel" - English or Korean - and then pick a number to go to a song. There are 10 English songs and 20 Korean songs.

Each song has a few lines of English lyrics (the Korean songs have been translated). The students need to try to guess the song name and singer from reading the lyrics. If they can't, they can listen to a 10-second sound clip from the song. After they guess, they can watch part of the music video for the song.

I haven't used it with my (middle school) classes yet, but the 2015 Pop Song Quiz I found on this site went down really well after exams last semester.

Since the file is enormous, you can access the full ppt in this Google Drive folder: https://goo.gl/Y8JjPS, or a smaller sample with just number 1 from each channel (so you can see if you want to do the full download). The song list is also attached below.

It's my first ppt game and first contribution here, so feel free to send feedback.
Enjoy! :)

I love your song list! Unfortunately I can't get any of the sound or video files to work in the ppt :(

This is amazing! Thank you so much!!^^ My kids will love this.

Does anyone have qualms about showing the girl group videos, though? My middle school boys can barely hold it together if I just show a picture of a girl group, so I'm worried about some of the video clips. I might have to cut them out or replace them with lyric videos.

You might need to download Quicktime player: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL837?locale=en_US

If that doesn't work, I'm uploading all the song and video files to the the Google Drive folder now :)

Thanks!
That was my reason for changing a few of the music videos to live videos. But I used it today at my boys' middle school and it was actually fine :) In any case, I am considering possibly replacing Sia - Chandelier (from far away it can look like she's naked), Beyonce - Single Ladies (although this was mostly fine), AOA - Good Luck. I'm in two minds about it though.

Thanks for the response! I guess I might substitute in live videos for some of them just to be safe. Anyway, good to know that it worked out fine at your boys' school!

Update: I totally underestimated the teenage hypermasculinity of the boys' classes at my second school. So I've made and added a new version to the Google drive which has fewer girl group videos and basically less to react to. I didn't change everything because all male singers gets a bit monotonous, but it's definitely gone a lot better :)
