Very detailed lesson plans for teaching animal related words
« on: January 07, 2017, 11:58:42 PM »
I'm a Chinese ESL teacher and I became an ESL teacher just 1month ago. I got some of my ideas online. There should be quite a few mistakes in my statements lol if you have questions, feel free to ask me XD

I had a demo class in which there were kids we knew and kids we didn't know and their parents. I had 30mins to teach 5words and then had 30mins to have the kids do a DIY grain pic as attached. My lesson plans are as below--

WARMERS:
1.Greetings and get to know everyone's name. I couldn't remember everyone's name so I wrote their names down on some colorful stickers then stuck the stickers to their coats.
2. Sang and danced "if you are happy and you know it". My kids were around 4years old and they barely knew any English so I did "clap hands, stomp feet, turn around, and wiggle hips"with them for twice before we actually started the music so they could catch up and enjoy.

TEACH words FISH,BIRD,PIG,PANDA,PENGUIN

Introducing words:
1.I introduced words"fish, bird, and penguin"one by one by drawing pics on the whiteboard and had the kids guess what I was drawing. (To save time, I learnt to draw them at 1 or 2 strokes, the pics are attached below as well)
2.I introduced word "pig" by making the pig noise and had them guess
3.I introduced word "panda" by showing the pic on powerpoing directly as I couldn't draw it very fast.

P.S. In case they couldn't get what I was drawing or making noise of I also prepare powerpoint with pics for the words

Practise words:
1.I had my kids pat/clap/kick the flashcards right after introducing the words. For example, let them guess the word fish, then teach them how to say it, then use flashcard to practise, then next word.
2.Put the flashcards at different places then tell the kids to run to/point at the cards I called out. This was for them to distinguish those vocab. I had them repeat the vocab after they ran to the right cards tho.
3. I said the words slowly,quickly,happily,sadly..then made em mime it.
4. Had them stad up and copy what I did: fish--swimming action, bird--flying action,pig--noise,penguin--stumbling walk,panda--pretending to be cute
5. Played a more active game here as they were familiar with the words already: set up 3chairs in the classroom in the shape of a triangle, all facing inwards. Spaced the chairs about 2m apart.Put a flashcard on the floor next to each chair. In each chari, had a student seated and a 4th student standing in the middle of the triangle. Had the student in middle ask what flashcard each student had. Once the students have answered , I called out"1,2,3..GO" The students all needed to quickly swap chairs and the standing student needed to sit down. This can be repeated for a few times till everybody played.
6. Had the students line up and played an angry bird bomb game. To save time, I didn't enter questions in the popwerpoint. Instead, I had the chose the bomb them wanted, then showed each one a flashcard directly, if they were right they got the point.

Hope this can help you!

Thanks
