Back around 2005, when I finished my first ESL contract in Japan, I met a few people who were starting to get into a Skype-based private lessons. This was fairly new territory back then, and the money was good. I was friends with one guy who was able to cultivate enough clients in Japan that he was able to return home and make a decent income as an online tutor.

Since then, the market has become much more saturated, and half the companies that I see recruiting for teachers look shady as hell. Still, I wouldn't mind doing a few hours a week of this over the summer, while I'm between contracts.

Can any of you recommend a reputable company? Pay doesn't have to be amazing, but I don't want to waste my time sending them a pile of documents, exchanging inane e-mails about the progress of my application, only to get "hired" and find that I have to pay $60 a month to be member of the service. Or some variation on that.

Thanks in advance!

I am currently working for Chinese company called DadaABC.  They are hiring now, so PM me and I can give you more details.  I have just re-signed for a second year.  I have had no problems at all with them.

Thanks to both of you.

This is a good resource, too: http://www.goodairlanguage.com/teaching-english-online-2/

There's a ton of information, though, so I was hoping that some personal insights could help me sort through it.

I am also very interested in applying for online teaching job. Does anyone have a specific trustworthy company that they would recommend?
