Hi everyone,
I recently learned that I would be switching from teaching at an all-boys middle school to teaching at a university in 2 months, so I thought I would start the process of uploading my more successful lessons for the benefit of my fellow waygookins. I hope these lessons help you out!
I recently made a Canada trivia game to help my students learn about another English-speaking country, and thought I'd share that with you all if you were running out of lesson inspiration. (I'm from the USA, and I apologize if any of the questions/answers are inaccurate.)
Because my students love to stab each other in the back (all in the name of education, of course), instead of awarding points I've constructed a slide where teams can take leaves from their classmates' trees. If for some reason your students are bizarrely good-natured and don't like making one another suffer, you can delete/modify this slide to be more in the spirit of giving than taking.
Some of the questions are actually pretty hard, so I give each team hint cards (just pieces of paper with the word "hint" written on them). If students answer a question correctly without spending a hint card, they can steal 2 leaves from another team. When teams spend a hint card, I eliminate two of the multiple-choice answers (making it a 50-50 chance that they could answer correctly). If they get the answer right, though, they can only steal 1 leaf.
I've attached an answer key with some backup info in case your students try to raise a fuss about some of the answers, or are simply curious to learn more.
Good luck, and please comment if you have any questions/problems!
