Family: PowerPoint and Worksheet (Low-Mid Beginner)
Hey all,

Here's a PPT presentation I put together for a unit on "Family." It's quite long, but I kept adding to it as we would build on concepts. I've also attached a worksheet I stumbled across.

Hope this can be of use to someone else as well!

This is really great. I'm tired of complicated and uninteresting PPT lessons. This is simple, clear, and nice looking. Thank you! I'll probably do this with my low levels :)

Family song(Finger song)
« Reply #10 on: May 22, 2011, 10:45:05 PM »

I use this one with 1st grade students.

First, just listen,
Second, If you live with your mom sister, then stand up in that part.
Third, Let's sing this song altogether.
Forth, Change your voice - Boys : Dad & brother / Girls : Mom & Sister / Everybody : Baby part
Fifth, Change the roles - Boys will sing (Mom and Sister part)
They loved it!

Grade 3-4 Family Tree Lesson
« Reply #14 on: September 25, 2011, 07:21:56 PM »
This is what I used for my grades 3 and 4 which worked very well.

Their English is quite basic but they love to draw and colour and can answer questions one on one about themselves to the teacher while drawing (they all like personal attention!)

Warm up- Song (Bingo is a favourite)
1. What is Family? Vocab Flashcards from website such as barryfunenglish
2. Powerpoint - 'Family tree.ppt' -Simpsons themed
3. Make you own Family Tree -template 'Trees and apples.doc'
Hangman game with Family -on board -(time race with an online time bomb for more excitement)

This lesson is for 40mins.

Hope this will help at least one other person!  :)

Grade 3-4 - Adjectives - Describing our family
« Reply #15 on: September 25, 2011, 07:40:53 PM »
Following on from this lesson I had the students think about adjectives in relation to their family.

Warm-up - Unscramble the words -Family -barryfunenglish online game
(the kids absolutely loved this so I told them we could play again if they were good)

1. Powerpoint of Family Adjectives -'family adjectives.ppt'- students were asked to shout out words they knew to describe family members.
Some examples were given on the board to start them off.

2. Students are to devise sentences using the family names and adjectives- written in their books/on paper.

3. Skit -students are paired up and asked to choose a sentence to act out to the class.
For example: 'My mother is loving' 'My sister is cute' 'My brother is horrible' -one person is the family member, the other the adjective. The person in class who guesses correctly gets a prize/sticker.

If deserving play unscramble again -with the new words learnt and with a time bomb.

This lesson is for 40mins.

Fabulous Family Member
« Reply #16 on: September 25, 2011, 07:45:35 PM »
The last lesson of the 'Family Week' series included the
~Fabulous Family Member Award~

See attached award sheet

Students were asked to fill in the award for a deserving member of their family and explain why using a simple English sentence.
They took this home to give to their family member! Ask them to draw and colour their family too and you will get some great results!
Very cute.

This activity took about 15 minutes.

Grade 1-3. Lesson 1: Family Tree
« Reply #18 on: March 19, 2012, 10:44:05 AM »
This is a very simple Family Tree worksheet I created for my students. They seemed to enjoy it, as they were able to write, draw, and color. In my case, I did one myself as an example so they could see what to do. It's very simple, but it worked!

I have also attached a puzzle I made for my students with some vocab.
