They’ve been removed, people can still see it your profile, but not on the boards.

I believe he also said it was to make the site  more readable on mobile.

IIRC it was to make the site more mobile friendly. Still not set in stone whether they will make a comeback or not as far as I know.

By making it look like the internet 20 years ago when nobody had avatars? No thanks. Let my avatars go!

i think it looks much more professional and it flows much better...not sure how to describe it. just my opinion tho

also, somebody said it had something to do with it being more mobile-friendly without the avatars. i usually only post at work on my pc, but i can see how making it more mobile-friendly is important.

They could put the avatars in the centre on the mobile version above our names. Or give us icons to choose as flair for our posts. Having all the posts look exactly the same is stupid and confusing.

That’s what they did originally , but the avatar more than doubled the size of the header for each reply.

professionally speaking: i think the update is great. cosmetically, the theme and color scheme go really well together. it's also much more professional looking. as far as functionality goes, making the site more mobile-friendly by removing the avatars seems like a no-brainer.

personally speaking: how the fck are yall getting so tight over not having some stupid jpeg thumbnail or a gif on a 2 second loop? is having flair on an anonymous message board that important to you? you are grown adults and are acting like stone cold hoes. as a matter of fact, if i was arsalan, i would bring back avatars and the only choice would be a picture of my fat dck so everybody complaining about all the work i did for this site can choke on it.

and for the bolded part of mayorhaggar's quote - i think it's GREAT that all posts look the same now. that's how it should be. it helps take out the personalities and focuses on the actual topics and discussions.

Point taken. The lack of avatars clearly makes one's manner, tone and response abundantly more professional.
Nonetheless if one placed such a premium on professionalism wouldn't a change of one's location of employment be a greater priority.  Unless of course, becoming indignant about the use of avatars on a discussion forum could provide one with adequate solace.

I wouldn’t want it warm; although some might accuse me of not considering opinions of others.
