Anyways, the mods have been very generous and I think after this explanation, it's best to move on.

There was no "going at it".  He told a story that I find not credible (still do), and decided to call him out on it.  To be clear, the part I bolded in the original post was the part I think he's lying about.
You said it wasn't credible because the girl who dongchimmed me wouldn't in turn sob in mortal terror when being taken for discipline. You do realize that adult criminals breakdown in tears all the time when they're getting hauled off by the cops or sentenced in court, right? And if she was "hamming it up" as you claim, she'd be the greatest child actor on the planet. It was utterly an utterly shocking experience the level of distress. This wasn't just temper tantrum tears, which I've heard plenty of, this was genuine mortal terror if I've ever heard it. I didn't expect it at all and I was genuinely surprised as to why she'd be THAT distressed. Keep in mind this was a 1st grader in the first week of school. Either two things happen- This was her first experience with discipline ever (possible because of the dongchim to an adult) or she goes through something awful at home for doing wrong. She was inconsolable. It is NOT a pleasant memory and I hope you never hear that kind of scream from a child.

Dude, sorry, but your BS detector isn't as good as you think it is.

Quote
After that screed...
You do realize the first part, including the bolded, is a quote from David Simon, the acclaimed author and reporter whose work led to three critically acclaimed television series- Homicide: Life on the Street, The Corner, and a little show called The Wire. If you have an issue with the content of that quote, take it up with him. That's from his Edgar Award winning non-fiction book "Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets".

Second, that quote was in reference to a debate we were having over whether lying was proof of guilt. I was explaining how the mere fact that someone lied to the cops, does not make them a suspect in whatever crime you are investigating. This is because EVERYONE lies to the police. If you assumed anyone who lied to you was the guilty party, you'd be a terrible investigator. You claimed that people wouldn't normally lie to investigators. Well according to investigators themselves, and the people who follow their work, that's not the case. Everyone, normal people, will lie for no reason whatsoever. They can just be a simple witness and they'll still lie about something. Same thing goes for doctors and dentists- the amount of nonstop lies they deal with is just a fact of life. You also asserted that lying was not a standard human behavior. That's what the stuff below was about. All the "little" ways people lie and the things they'll lie about.

However, these lies are all under interrogation and stated by people who think they might be in some kind of trouble. If I was to interrogate you about say, whether you like to gamble and whether you're any good at it, what your porno habits are or what titillates you, or violent fantasies, or how long you lasted last time you had sex, or how much time you spend playing video games, or whether you're sticking to your diet, or something, within 20 questions, you'll probably have lied at least once. If you didn't you actually wouldn't be normal. Almost everyone will lie about embarrassing past experiences or sexual fetishes or whatever. That stuff IS embarrassing to talk about with a complete stranger. It is natural, indeed, probably biologically natural and hardwired into us to be secretive about aspects of our private lives like that.

Lastly, you make the assumption that because people do lie about things and that everyone tells lies, that EVERYTHING is a lie. That's taking something to it's most ridiculous logical conclusion.

 :undecided:

So what are you doing now?

Jeez louise!

LOL, fair enough. I couldn't resist!

Anyways, I did want to further explain what happened when I was DC'd and also give context to the remarks that were quoted.

Um, can you guys take your dumb argument to another thread? Or like, to private messages? I'm asking a legitimate question about arbitrary and inconsistent moderation practices, and you guys are... doing whatever you're doing.

I didn't change the title, and I don't know who did, but if I had to hazard a guess, I suppose that I'd say that the title was changed because the general consensus on that thread (including the OP) was that labeling the (very inappropriate) actions of 8 year-olds as sexual assault might have been a bit drastic, and that the thread name might lead people to expect a very different kind of discussion.

Inconsistent moderating is probably due to the fact that there are about half a dozen active mods who each have their own tolerances and approaches to moderating.
Me, I spend most of my time just fixing horrible formatting errors.

Nobody was saying it was sexual assault, for the record. The thread title said sexual harassment.

Anyways. Thanks for the response, Kyndo.

I still think that maybe shouldn't go around removing and adding things to people's posts without their permission if it's not breaking the rules of the site. Especially adding the line "What are some the worse [sic] things your students have done?" making it look like the OP was trying to start a round table discussion or something, when in reality she was asking for advice on a specific incident.

Right. There's a pretty big difference between the 2. My bad. I meant to write "sexual harassment".

So, maybe this is a good time to bring up that one of your dogs 'sexually assaulted' my leg.  No harassment involved.

Clearly you were leading her on.
Yanking her chain, so to speak.

Anyway, you probably shouldn't have been wearing that dress if you didn't want the attention.
