"WATCHED" vs. "MODERATED"
« on: August 04, 2020, 12:13:48 pm »
I see some people on this site have "WATCHED" or "MODERATED"
under their user info when they post.  Which one is better? Watched
or moderated?

I guess "BANNED" would be the best, but this wouldn't be visible.
I was banned from Eslcafe so many times I lost count.  I started as
Cohiba, got banned. Tried to join again and realized Dorky Dave
banned my IP address also. So, I would use a proxy.  So, really, banning
is not really banning.

I've been banned here a few times.  I started as FDNY, got banned. Used
a few other names, and now it is SPQR.  At least the IP address wasn't banned.
Just a nuisance anyway.

I guess a forum needs some moderation.  Posts promoting illegal activity,
violence and things like that need to be removed.  But posts attacking other
users are something different.  I think a user who verbally attacks another
user with profanity etc., just makes themselves look like idiots.

I think moderation should be relegated to things that are illegal. That's it's. Selling drugs, selling guns, pedophilia, mounting an insurrection against the government, plotting a murder....you get it...other that that, nope.

There are moderators here who interpret things differently. What is okay with one gets you slapped by another. Plus sometimes names are so alike that a poster gets muted for having done nothing other than have a name similar to another user.

I guess moderated would be... better? “Watched” is more of a warning as I understand it. They don’t restrict the posts of someone who is watched. But under “moderated” a post has to be reviewed and approved by a moderator before it appears on the forum.

Plus sometimes names are so alike that a poster gets muted for having done nothing other than have a name similar to another user.

The voice of experience?  :cheesy:

Was it a particularly suggestive ham? I vaguely remember that running joke... was Marty the butt of it? Does that mean there was a  pre-oglop oglop?

I was muted for a month for posting a fake news article. It was convincing, apparently.  :azn:
Another time for writing all my comments in 4 font.

IF that is the case, it is hard to believe they do anything at all.

Generally, I stick around until I get a warning.

On Dave's, been there for a few years, but I got a warning for something, can't remember for what, or from whom.  Their lose.  ;D

Expatkorea (now gone, which I kind of miss) I left a year before the party ended.  There was a poster called Broken, who had numerous socks, he was funny but he took over everything.  I get the feeling he might be here under some other guise.   :undecided:

Waygook, so far, we'll see.....although I'm pretty sure I was being 'watched' by Kyndo near the bus stop today....

it was just a lovely joint of gammon

Maybe the vegetarians took offence.  Try a tofu burger or something like that....

Then you’d just offend a different set of snowflakes

‘Gammon’ was used as a racist/classist slur by many remain voters during the Brexit era.

Perhaps slurs and jokes based on attributes no one can control should be kept to a minimum.
Haven't you got some pictures of birds to be jacking off to, son?

Colburnnn: Complains a lot, very sassy. Has a loudmouth.

Quote
Gammon is a pejorative popularised in British political culture since around 2012. In 2018, it became particularly known as a term to describe either those on the political right or those who supported Brexit.[1][2] The term refers in particular to the colour of such a person's flushed face, especially when expressing their strong opinions, as compared to the type of pork of the same name.[1][3] There has been considerable debate over whether the term is racist.

I veer towards it being racist and sexist. If someone uses it to describe Priti Patel or Rishi Sunak, I'm prepared to change my mind.  BAME people aren't likely to turn pink when discussing politics.

Kidding, kidding!

So it wasn’t about our friend Marty. I’m sorry Brexit developed such an acrimonious tone. Those kinds of insults are never justified.

Hmm....a poster that took over everything?  That would be a short list.

And as to getting a warning, seeing as the hilarious back and forth between you and Kyndo continues  I think you’re safe on that count.  Watched at the bus stop?  You guys!

People being nice on the internet shocker.

In a thread about 'watched/moderated', I mention the only visible 'moderator who posts and replies a fair bit.  If it were about something else, I'd choose a different poster.

But, we won't let that get in the way of your usual hilarious diatribes.
