I have to agree with Spacerook, I took one look at it an realized unless your students are extreamly high level it is too complicated.
I think part A would def be better has a matching excercise
also it looks in word like the directions are not highlighted so that too is confusing.
The directions are also very unclear for ESL students. Remember simplicity is your friend
Also they may have simply refused to try becasue there is so much text on the sheet, I know often when my students see a ton of text they shut down-this is the case with a worksheet, PPT or anything really. If they don't see at least some pictures they aren't interested.
Just my opinions- I don't know your students so it is hard to say
