Past Tense Lessons and Materials
« on: May 19, 2011, 12:01:44 PM »
This worked today.  (At the end of the post is our completed video "news report".)

Before the video, students were told to think of useful English words to describe what they were seeing as they watched the above short clip.

(They had previously studied rode-ride, hit-hit, and possibly some others that matched.)

After watching the clip a few times, I asked them to shout out (brainstorm) useful words or phrases.  I told them to think about Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How...

After the short brainstorming, we made a script for two "news reporters".

Then, we filmed a short "news report".

Next time, I plan to have the students work in pairs or groups of 4 to create their own dialog for a different short clip - then I'll film one of them...

Here is our video "News Report" - you can use it to practice the dialog.

I made this hand-out for students who struggled with the past tense during the "What did you do..?" chapter. I just asked them to copy the words, since even that is difficult for them. (I'm posting it here because it's just past tense practice and not specifically material from the chapter.)
