As you can see, big business and billionaires also gave money to Republicans. The split is almost even. Of the top 25 individual donors, 12 gave to Republicans and 13 to Democrats (but total spending for Republicans was higher in that group). In the House and Senate campaigns, spending was slightly higher for Democrats ($755,975,981 to $682,112,417) and quite a bit higher for the Senate, but most of that excess went to a couple of high profile races.
