I took someone else's musical pursuit ppt, updated the content, and heavily modified it to better fit my sense of aesthetics and classroom game play. This means I removed the options for collecting, stealing, and destroying other teams' colors because I like having one team choose the question but all teams writing the answers. No one gets bored waiting for their turn this way.

I stole two design pages from another music game because the creator did such a good job making them. I can't remember which one it was, but credit where it's due.

Let me know if you have any trouble downloading or using the game. The "Watch" category requires that you have Quicktime player installed on your computer, so you should download and install if you find that the videos won't play. It's a free program and will not interfere with any other programs or processes on your computer, just don't select the option to make it your default player if presented with it.

Quick question for those who have used it. How is it with your lower level students? I've tried another version of this game last year with my 6th graders, but It didn't go too well (it was too hard for them since even the Korean Lyrics were in English).

I can't speak for students not in middle school, but this is specifically why I added sound hints into the kpop category. They're really short, though, so it's still a challenge for students to figure out the singer and song names based on that alone. If it's for younger age groups, I might make the clips a wee bit longer.

For classes and students that I find are really struggling with that section, I provide additional hints. I tell them whether or not it's a boy group, girl group, or solo singers. I might tell them the record label that the group or singers are signed with. I might tell them how many members are in each group, or give them the first letter of the song name as well as tell them how many words are in the song name. I might drop some trivia hints about the singers themselves, list any awards one or more of them might have won, maybe list the year that they debuted. I give them as many hints as I think they need until they at least have a narrowed list of possibilities and can write an educated guess.

I've personally found that lower level students are more easily engaged in this type of game when you're willing to give them a lot of hints. I used to create a hint cheat sheet for this purpose. Lower level students are also the reason why I prefer musical pursuit to the other apop vs. kpop types of games because it provides a variety of other styles of challenges, and students can pick and choose the ones they prefer.

I teach elementary and have used these games many times with my 5th and 6th graders. I don't know how it is with middle and high school students, but I play these types of games in larger groups (like splitting the class into boys/girls or odd/even numbers). I've found having larger teams means there are always a few students who know the answers and I let them give hints/help their teammates even when it's not their turn. The low level students (in my school at least) seem to respond well to getting help from their classmates and usually end participating pretty well. I personally like bigger teams in general because it moves the games along faster and the students don't have to wait as long for their turn. That's just my opinion though; I understand it won't work for everyone's classes. Hope you can work something out!
